Job Description

As a Component Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the reliability, manufacturability, and longterm sustainability of Rockwell Automation's hardware platforms. In this role, you will serve as a trusted technical partner to global hardware development teams, guiding component selection, material strategy, and lifecycle risk mitigation across new product introductions and major redesigns. You'll apply deep expertise in polymer and electromechanical components to influence design decisions, support qualification and failure analysis efforts, and drive costeffective, globally scalable component solutions that meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements.

You will work a hybrid schedule in Milwaukee, WI or Mayfield Heights, OH and report to the Manager, Component Engineering.



Your Responsibilities:
  • Act as the Component Engineering representative on development projects and design reviews.
  • Primary owner of polymer components (including injection molded, fabricated, thermoplastic and thermoset) across Rockwell Automation.
  • Provide guidance on component material selection, lifecycle management, and risk mitigation.
  • Support multiple phases of product development across Rockwell businesses.
  • Collaborate with global mechanical, electrical, sourcing, and quality engineering teams.
  • Lead or support failure analysis activities as needed.
  • Engage suppliers and coordinate introductions of new material technologies.
  • Train and advise development teams on component engineering processes and standards.
  • Drive cost and productivity improvements through high-quality, low-cost component strategies.
  • Participate in initiatives to improve efficiency and leverage advanced tools, including AI.
  • Work with Fabrication Services to develop new parts and support materials related challenges in qualification and production settings.
  • Identify opportunities to qualify alternate materials in response to geopolitical, lifecycle, or transfer of tooling to different regions of the world.
  • Identify opportunities to consolidate various similar materials used across the world into globally available resins you select and qualify in collaboration with global sourcing commodity manager.
  • Review changes to components for impact on certifications and advise on qualification plans.

The Essentials - You Will Have:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Relevant Field.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.

The Preferred - You Might Also Have:
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Material Science, Chemical, Polymers, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of electromechanical design or component engineering experience.
  • Experience with plastic part design and injection molding processes.
  • Knowledge of molding compounds, color matching, and resin masterbatch colorants.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset resin suppliers and their technical capabilities.
  • Understanding of thermoplastics and thermoset materials and part design- Familiarity with component lifecycles and obsolescence mitigation.
  • Experience with SAP, Windchill, Silicon Expert, or similar PLM/lifecycle tools.
  • Injection molding experience.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
