Position: Temporary Administrative Generalist Hours: This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week/ 9am-5pm / hybrid) Pay: $23.50 per hour Campus: Evanston Approximate start date: 5/11/2026 Approximate end date: 10/30/2026 Northwestern University is seeking a temporary full-time Administrative Generalist for the Evanston campus.
Temporary Job Description: The Administrative Generalist (temp position) provides broad administrative and operational support within the academic and administrative units of McCormick School of Engineering. This role is responsible for supporting departmental operations, assisting faculty, staff, and students, and ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. The work schedule is hybrid Monday-Friday. Key Responsibilities:
- Provides excellent customer service, over the phone and in person answering
- standard questions regarding status of requests, policies and procedures for
- processing transactions, &/or instructions for completing paperwork.
- Completes & maintains transactions in enterprise systems.
- Manage calendars, coordinate meetings, and schedule appointments for
- department leadership and faculty.
- Prepares correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, and presentation materials.
- Maintains departmental records, including course files, student forms, and
- confidential personnel documents.
- Supports academic processes such as course scheduling, room reservations, and
- faculty evaluations.
- Assists with student services functions, including communication of deadlines,
- forms processing, and basic advising referrals.
- Coordinates travel arrangements and reimbursements for faculty, staff, and guest
- speakers in accordance with university policies.
- Provides logistical support for department events, seminars, and academic
- conferences.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree
- preferred.
- Minimum 1 year of administrative experience, preferably in a higher education
- setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Familiarity
- with campus systems is preferred.
- Excellent communication, customer service, organizational, and time management
- skills with the ability to work with stakeholders across the organization.
- Must demonstrate adaptability to perform effectively in an environment in which
- parameters change frequently.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality
