ARES seeks an experienced aerospace Mission Assurance Manager to oversee the assurance activities on an in-house Goddard Space Flight Center instrument. The chosen candidate must possess the ability to work professionally as a NASA representative and successfully foster a positive relationship with our internal and external customers. This is a fast-paced environment that requires an outgoing and positive attitude and the ability to handle multiple priority tasks. The successful applicant must possess leadership skills and be able to communicate mission issues and risks as they apply to programmatic, technical, and safety concerns. Scope of Position:

Specified activities include:

  • Develop the Mission Assurance Requirement and flow the requirements down to suppliers.
  • Manage a team of mission assurance discipline engineers (e.g. hardware quality engineers, reliability engineers, safety engineers).
  • Lead Material Review Boards (MRB), Configuration Control Boards (CCB), Failure Review Boards (FRB).
  • Process deviations and waivers.
  • Ensure that Government Mandatory Inspection Points are defined, scheduled, and performed.
  • Ensure safety processes and procedures are in place and executed to ensure the safety of hardware and personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with NASA standards and procedures.
  • Perform supplier assurance activities including site visits and audits.
  • Participate on risk management boards to identify, track, control, and mitigate mission assurance related risks.
  • Develop mission assurance personnel schedules to ensure flight testing operations have adequate mission assurance coverage.
  • Support mission assurance activities at the launch site.
  • Develop mission assurance personnel work estimates.
  • Develop and present mission assurance information at project milestone reviews.
  • Write letters of delegation for mission assurance support at supplier locations.
  • Support the Mission Assurance Directorate at GSFC.
  • Specified activities include:
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Be pro-active and confident, as well as a team-player who is able to interface with technical and management personnel.
  • Experience managing a mission assurance team.
  • Fundamental knowledge of project life cycles and the work involved in each phase.
  • Knowledge of NASA workmanship standards with workmanship inspection of flight hardware.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Be a self-starter, able to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Be pro-active and confident, as well as a team-player who is able to interface with technical and management personnel.

Education and Relevant Work Experience:

  • Please list the degree requirements and the required years of relevant experience.
  • 7 or more years of directly related mission assurance experience.
  • Experience managing a mission assurance team.
