Coordinates the projects and activities of an assigned section of the Physician Practice's management engineering (internal consulting) group. Supervises the work of assigned staff members including hiring/firing and providing discipline as required. In conjunction with the department director and senior management, establishes project goals, priorities and timelines for the Physician Practice's. Serves as senior project advisor and internal consultant to management, staff and physicians in the areas of process improvement, productivity standards development, performance monitoring, resource allocation and scheduling, and statistical analysis. This position requires an individual that is a selfstarter, demonstrates exceptional project management skills, has the ability to effectively manage people, projects and multiple priorities, works with minimal supervision to meet broadly defined departmental and hospital goals, demonstrates tact and diplomacy in situations of conflict and controversy, and demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Supervises the work of assigned productivity management staff including Management Engineers, Interns, Position Management staff, and other departmental staff. This supervision includes overseeing the quality of work performed, conducting annual performance evaluations, and hiring, firing and disciplining as appropriate.
  2. In conjunction with the department director and senior hospital management, assesses hospital operations to develop project goals and priorities. Develops project work plans and timelines based on established and customer needs. Oversees the work of management engineers and project staff in meeting project objectives and achieving satisfactory project outcomes.
  3. Oversees Productivity Management processes including bi-weekly and monthly productivity reporting, position control processing, and chargemaster changes (related to productivity standards). Reviews processes and reports for efficiency and accuracy. Implements changes as necessary.
  4. Works with management, departmental and interdepartmental staff in identifying operational problems and inefficiencies. Understands all systems used by Productivity Management, and understands the relationship between system point of entry, data flow, and functionality in order to retrieve data for the development of alternatives and implementation of improvements.
  5. Serves as a technical advisor and internal consultant to all hospital management and staff on the use of productivity management tools and techniques, analytical techniques, and statistical applications. Communicates complex financial and operational data in a concise and understandable manner to hospital management. Develops and implements procedures and systems changes in order to improve department efficiency.
  6. Responsible for the development and maintenance of productivity standards for hospital activities to be used in determining and evaluating staffing patterns, personnel utilization, and required costs. Recommends staffing levels and skill mix distribution based on developed standards and comparative information, as appropriate.
  7. Develops the annual staffing budget for all entities based on volume projections, staffing goals, and historical trends. Also, balances position control annually for each cost center at all entities as part of the budgeting process.
  8. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Manager.

REQUIRED

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Health Systems Engineering, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or other related field.
  2. Seven (7) years of experience in healthcare management engineering or operations improvement, healthcare consulting, or healthcare supervision.
  3. Working knowledge of microcomputer applications, including Microsoft Office applications.

PREFERRED

  1. Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Health Care Administration, Business Administration, or other related field.
  2. Working knowledge of other microcomputer applications including Access database applications, HRMS, and other financial software.
  3. Previous experience in team process development, facilitation, and education.
  4. Previous supervisory experience.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  6. Experience in the development and management of complex project plans.
