Job Description

General Summary:

The Policy & Alliance Development Associate Director willsupportthe strategy and execution ofUS (United States)Public Affairs (USPA)activities, withinitialfocus in our pain and kidneyareas. This role will work within Public Affairs as well as cross-functionallywith other internal Vertex functions, including commercial, medical, R&Dand legal, to ensure alignment and progress around our corporate goals andobjectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Servesastheprimaryliaisonto theUSPAState Government Affairs (SGA)teamonstate policy work.
  • Supports identification of SGA opportunities to advancepainprogramobjectivesandgenerates materials and assetstoexecuteonthoseengagements.
  • Monitors state legislation andidentifiessubstantive policy and political opportunities and risks to the company's business.
  • LeadskeyUSPA painprojects andis responsible for departmental program/process operationsto help successfully advance policy initiatives.
  • Develops plans, goals,processes,andlogisticsfor projects, gaining cooperation andalignment.
  • Summarizes and creates communications for internal stakeholders on key information such as program progress, timeline updates, and potential risks.
  • Monitorsprojectbudgets and is accountable for understanding and communicating forecast variance,risksandopportunities.
  • Compiles succinct reports and prepares minutes for internal meetings; methodically tracks all actionsitems andfinds new ways to stay abreast of multi-dimensionaltasks.
  • 10-20% travel anticipated

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 7-8years current and relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry and prior experience in patient advocacy, public health policy, governmentrelationsor related field(s), preferably with experience in the pain environment.
  • Strong analytical andproblem-solvingskills, often addressing novel/unusual situations and exercisingjudgement.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate with other functional areas and build effective, productive businessrelationships.
  • Project management skills andhighlyproficient at managing, tracking, andmeasuring.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/projects at a given time, ensuring deadlines,budgets,and status updates.
  • Developed communication skills and the ability to synthesize data and information into meaningful insights.
  • Very detail oriented and strong project/operation management skills
  • Comfortable withworking in areas of uncertainty

Pay Range:

$178,000 - $267,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
