The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Columbia University Department of Neurology is searching for a Senior Secretary who will be responsible for supporting the clinical operations of the Eleanor and Lou Gehrig ALS Center. The position will work under the direction of the Practice Operations Supervisor, and in collaboration with the attending physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical and research staff.

Responsibilities



  • Assist with administrative tasks, including scanning, faxing, emailing, and uploading documents and imaging results into EPIC
  • Triage all patient communication, including messages through MyChart, calls, and emails to both personal and shared inboxes
  • Assist with new patient referral and ongoing clinical appointment scheduling/rescheduling, including records requests, confirmation calls, patient registration, and overbooking as requested
  • Assist with clinic workflow, including preparation of documents prior to appointments, confirming eligibility of insurance verification via EPIC using RTE & communicating with billing department, and completing patient checkout/follow-up according to each patient's AVS
  • Communicate with vendors of equipment and services, including medical equipment ordering and confirmation of delivery
  • Obtain pre-certification and preauthorization for clinical services, as necessary
  • Set up patient transportation via service providers or external organizations, such as ALS United
  • Communicate with other departments to arrange clinical testing, such as genetic testing, PFTs, MRIs, EMGs, among others
  • Attend department, division and center meetings as needed


Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires two years of college or completion of secretarial school or equivalent business experience, plus a minimum of two to three years related experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree desirable
  • One year related experience with motor neuron diseases.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work under pressure are prerequisites for this position.
  • Ability to type 60-65 wpm
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office
  • Expertise in EPIC
