Role Overview: This role serves as a subject matter expert across multiple Workday modules and plays a critical leadership role in the design, delivery, and long-term optimization of Workday solutions. The individual will lead large-scale system initiatives, independently manage complex projects, and partner closely with HR, IT, Finance, Payroll, and external vendors to ensure Workday effectively supports enterprise-wide business objectives. This position requires strong systems thinking, the ability to translate business strategy into scalable system solutions, and confidence operating with minimal oversight in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Responsibilities
Workday Strategy & System Ownership
Serve as a senior subject matter expert across core Workday modules (e.g., HCM, Core Compensation, Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll, Talent, Benefits, Reporting.
- Own and drive Workday configuration strategy to ensure scalability, data integrity, and alignment with business and HR operating models.
- Act as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders on Workday capabilities, design trade-offs, and best practices.
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, user experience, automation, and reporting.
Project & Program Leadership
- Lead and independently manage large-scale, cross-functional Workday initiatives such as module implementations, major redesigns, global rollouts, or regulatory-driven changes.
- Develop and manage project plans, timelines, risks, dependencies, and stakeholder communications.
- Coordinate closely with internal teams and external partners (e.g., implementation vendors, AMS providers).
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with high-quality outcomes
Configuration, Testing & Deployment
- Design and execute complex configuration changes, testing strategies, and deployment plans.
- Lead end-to-end testing efforts, including unit, integration, UAT, and parallel testing as applicable.
- Ensure appropriate documentation, audit trails, and controls are maintained.
- Support change management and adoption activities in partnership with HR and business stakeholders.
Reporting, Data & Governance
- Provide expertise in Workday reporting (custom reports, dashboards, calculated fields, BIRT if applicable).
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and governance across modules and business processes.
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Compliance teams to support regulatory, audit, and data privacy requirements.
Process Design & Advisory
- Partner with HR to analyze and redesign HR business processes with a systems-first mindset.
- Translate complex business requirements into practical, scalable Workday solutions.
- Challenge existing processes when appropriate and advocate for standardization and best practices.
Support, Mentorship & Leadership
- Serve as an escalation point for complex system issues.
- Mentor and guide junior analysts or administrators, providing functional and technical leadership.
- Establish and maintain system documentation, standards, and operating procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Required: BS/BA degree Minimum Experience: 10-15 years system experience, 5-10 year Workday experience Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Workday system configuration, project management, compliance, global HR business processes, testing/process documentation
