| Position Purpose |
Reporting to the Associate Director for Evergreen Tacoma, this position is responsible for the daily operation, instructional support, and strategic development of a media lab that promotes digital literacy, creative expression, and equitable access to media production technologies. The position supports students, faculty, staff, and community members by maintaining a welcoming, inclusive, and educational environment where users can create, learn, and innovate using contemporary media tools and emerging technologies.
The incumbent serves in both a technical support role and an educational facilitator, bridging technology, pedagogy, and creative practice. The position ensures that facilities, equipment, and software are operational, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals, while also contributing to program development, resource planning, and continuous improvement of media services. |

| Essential Functions |
Media Lab Operations and User Support
- Coordinate and oversee daily media lab operations, including scheduling, access management, and user support services.
- Provide hands-on technical assistance to users working with digital media tools, such as audio and video production equipment, photography gear, graphic design software, editing platforms, and emerging technologies.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and workflow issues to minimize downtime and ensure consistent lab functionality.
- Enforce lab usage guidelines, safety procedures, and ethical standards related to media creation and copyright compliance.
Instructional and Educational Support
- Support teaching and learning by assisting faculty and instructors with media-based assignments, projects, and instructional technologies.
- Conduct orientations, workshops, and one-on-one training sessions to build user competency in media production tools and digital workflows.
- Develop instructional materials, tutorials, and documentation to support independent learning and equitable access to lab resources.
- Promote digital literacy, accessibility, and inclusive design principles in all instructional and support activities.
Equipment, Software, and Resource Management
- Manage media lab equipment inventory, including checkout systems, preventative maintenance, and lifecycle planning.
- Recommend and assist with procurement of new hardware, software licenses, and subscriptions based on evolving user needs and industry trends.
- Maintain clean, organized, and functional lab spaces that support a variety of creative and collaborative activities.
- Coordinate with IT, facilities, and vendors to support infrastructure, upgrades, and repairs.
Program Development and Community Engagement
- Support or lead the development of media lab programming, events, showcases, or open labs that encourage creativity and engagement.
- Promote media lab services through outreach, communication, and collaboration with academic programs, departments, and campus partners.
- Collect usage data, feedback, and assessment metrics to evaluate services and inform improvements.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful environment that encourages experimentation, collaboration, and creative confidence.
Additional Duties
- Assist in the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of student employees, interns, or volunteers.
- Participate in institutional committees, working groups, or initiatives related to technology, equity, or teaching and learning.
- Stay current with trends in media production, educational technology, and emerging tools to inform lab development.
- Contribute to the development and revision of policies, procedures, and best practices related to media lab use.
- Support accessibility initiatives by identifying and implementing tools and workflows that reduce barriers to participation.
- Assist with budget planning, grant-related activities, or reporting related to media lab operations when applicable.
- Perform related duties as assigned to support departmental or institutional goals.
- Work in accordance with class schedules, including working evenings and weekend hours as needed.

- Ability to maintain clean, organized, and functional lab spaces that support a variety of creative and collaborative activities.
- Ability to provide effective media technology assistance, training, and workshops to students, faculty, and staff in support of the curriculum.
- Skill and ability to develop training and workshops and proficiency testing materials related to media equipment and software.
- Ability to install, set up, and troubleshoot media related equipment and technology.
- Skill in troubleshooting hardware, software, and workflow issues to minimize downtime and ensure consistent lab functionality.
- Skill in managing media lab equipment inventory, including checkout systems and ability to perform inventory related tasks and follow surplus procedures.
- Skill in coordinating and performing preventative maintenance of media equipment and systems and performing or arranging for repair of equipment.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, staff, and the public, including culturally and socio-economically diverse populations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing.
- Ability to be organized and productive with extreme attention to detail.
- Excellent record-keeping skills, including collecting usage data, feedback, and assessment metrics to inform improvements.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Knowledge of an educational setting and related processes.
- Ability to regularly work evening hours and occasional weekend hours as needed.

- Two years of media experience, including set up, operation, and routine maintenance of multi-media equipment or equivalent education/experience.
- Experience providing media technology assistance, training, and instructional support.

| Conditions of Employment |
- Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
- This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
- Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
