Primary Purpose of Position
The Associate Treasurer serves as a senior leader within the Treasurer's Office and provides operational leadership of the University's daily activities related to student financial services, cashiering operations, receivables management, and treasury support functions.
Working closely with the University Treasurer, this position ensures that financial transactions, treasury activities, and student account operations are performed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, and UNC System regulations.

The Associate Treasurer oversees the day-to-day operational functions of the Treasurer's Office and plays a key role in ensuring that payments, deposits, refunds, and student account activity are processed accurately and reconciled appropriately within the University's financial systems. This role also promotes consistent service standards and operational practices that support both financial accuracy and a positive experience for students and campus partners.

The Associate Treasurer collaborates with financial systems staff and campus stakeholders to resolve operational issues, improve financial processes, and strengthen the overall effectiveness of treasury and student financial services operations.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The University Treasurer's Office is organized as a unit of the Division of Business & Finance with direct reporting responsibilities to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Business & Finance/Controller. The University Treasurer's Office has the functional responsibilities for the following operations: cash receipting and control; student accounts receivable; accounting for Foundation housing payables; student accounts billing and student fees transfers; financial reporting; maintaining banking relationships; endowment Investments and Banner Student A/R.
Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in treasury operations, student financial services, cash management, or financial administration.
  • Experience working in higher education financial operations.
  • Knowledge of financial systems used in higher education environments.
  • Strong experience with internal controls and financial compliance requirements.


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Public Administration.
  • Experience with Banner Student, Banner Finance, and TouchNet payment systems.
  • Experience working in a public or large university environment.
  • Experience managing treasury operations or student accounts in a complex organizational environment.
  • Experience overseeing financial reconciliations or treasury related financial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of treasury operations, student accounts processes, and financial reconciliation practices.
  • Understanding of Title IV cash management regulations and student financial aid related financial processes.
  • Ability to analyze financial data and identify operational issues impacting financial accuracy.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Abilityto collaborate effectively with multiple university departments and stakeholders.
    Excellent communication and customer service skills.
