Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Operations Manager at our Lumber facility in Rome, GA. The Operations Manager will provide leadership to drive continuous improvement in Safety, Productivity, Cost, Customer Experience, and site performance, aligning with Principle-Based Management (PBM).

Rome is a beautiful city with a thriving downtown area, surrounded by colleges, medical centers, rivers, lakes, and rolling hills. The location provides both city and country living and is close to metropolitan areas.

What You Will Do

  • Lead operations across the facility, applying PBM principles from raw material receipt through finished product shipment.
  • Ensure alignment with the business vision and drive performance in safety, environmental compliance, production, quality, and financial results.
  • Select and develop a team of Principled Entrepreneurs who create long-term value and eliminate waste.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, challenge, and continuous improvement that results in measurable performance gains.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations
  • Build productive relationships with peers and support functions (maintenance, procurement, sales, accounting, HR, etc.).
  • Engage and connect team members at all levels to foster mutual benefit and respect.
  • Drive operational discipline and consistency to improve reliability and sustain overall site performance.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Three or more years of experience leading manufacturing operations in a lumber mill or industrial setting, with a focus on improving safety, production, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in managing direct reports, including coaching, development, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and sustain performance improvement that supports profitable operations.
  • Experience in identifying performance gaps and ensuring timely resolution through others.
  • An understanding of budgeting, expense management, and financial performance drivers.
  • Experience with EH&S management systems, risk assessment/mitigation, and compliance requirements.
  • Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, stewardship, and compliance.
  • Experience in implementing business improvement initiatives.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Wood Science
  • Master's degree in business administration
  • Progressive experience in a wood products facility in one or more of the following positions: Operations Manager, Production Manager, Superintendent, or equivalent leadership role.
  • Experience in large capital project engineering or management
  • Experience applying and leveraging continuous improvement and lean tools such as Six Sigma, 5-S, Lean Manufacturing, Transactional Lean, and others to foster improvement.
  • Experience working in a union environment
