Medica will host a 12-week, paid Internship Program. Interns will have the opportunity to network within Medica and with other Interns through weekly Lunch and Learns and opportunities to hear from Executives. Each internship offers a meaningful experience and impactful projects you'll be able to discuss with future employers. At Medica, we look forward to our Summer Internship Program each year.

The Medicaid Product Intern will support enterprisewide initiatives designed to strengthen Medicaid performance, improve member outcomes, and advance strategic priorities in maternal and child health, retention, and operational readiness. This role is ideal for a graduatelevel student pursuing healthcare policy, public health, health administration, or a related field who is looking to gain handson experience with policy analysis, program development, and operational process improvement in a managed care environment. Performs other duties as assigned.

Key Accountabilities



  • Medicaid Maternal & Child Health Strategy Support

    • Contribute to the ongoing internal landscape assessment, synthesizing insights from crossfunctional partners
    • Conduct research on national trends, emerging best practices, and policy innovations in maternal and child health
    • Benchmark approaches used by other health plans, both locally and nationally
    • Identify regulatory, operational, and programmatic timelines for potential strategy implementation
    • Compile research findings into an initial draft strategy plan for leadership review and further iteration





  • Medicaid Retention Strategy Development




    • Initiate and support an internal landscape assessment to understand current state processes, strengths, and opportunities



    • Research retention best practices, state-level innovations, and approaches other health plans are using across the country



    • Assess feasibility and timing for implementing various retention strategies



    • Develop a preliminary strategy draft that will serve as the foundation for future collaborative planning






  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Development

    • Interview subject matter experts (SMEs) across Medicaid product areas to document existing processes
    • Draft SOPs with clear, concise, and accurate process steps
    • Review SOP drafts with SMEs to ensure completeness and correctness
    • Conduct quality assurance testing of documented processes to confirm accuracy and operational readiness




Required Qualifications




  • Currently pursuing a degree in Healthcare Policy, Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy, or related field. Graduate-level student preferred




    Skills and Abilities



    • Prior research experience a plus but not required
    • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills
    • Interest in state and federal Medicaid policy and managed care operations
    • Excellent written communication skills with ability to synthesize complex information
    • Comfort engaging with teammates across departments to gather information and validate processes
    • Organized, detailoriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously

    This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite, on average, 3 days per week. We are open to candidates located near one of the following office locations: Minnetonka, MN, or Madison, WI.

    The full salary grade for this position is $34,100 - $43,900. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data.
