Job Description

Position Summary:

Level Two: Level two Automation technicians perform intermediate tasks under minimal supervision related to assembling, programing, testing and maintaining automated equipment. This includes performing test runs to ensure equipment meets production requirements and expectations, and troubleshooting software, hardware and setup issues. They also perform maintenance and minor repairs and provide operational technical support. These tasks require intermediate knowledge of common PLC programming languages (Ladder Logic & Structured Text) and applications, and general manufacturing processes.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Observes all safety and environmental procedures as outlined in Quality Rules and Quality System Requirements (QSR).
  • Has detailed operational knowledge of the equipment to the point that they can operate within specified limits and assist operations.
  • Follows work processes closely at school and on the shop floor to ensure a safe environment while job shadowing with technical advisor in OJL.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting on complex automated systems and Root cause analysis (RCA)
  • Starts up equipment and ensures proper functioning of machines and control panel. Monitors / replenishes component inventories and ensures all safety guards are in position and functional.
  • Must Understand and use a CMMS program for recording pertinent information about downtime and maintenance problems. MUST HAVE clear and legible handwriting.
  • Exercises mechanical capabilities and knowledge of proper use of tools, proper troubleshooting and set up procedures, and machine blueprint reading.
  • Sets up and debugs equipment to the specifications listed in specifications, plant policies, and Department Procedures. Deviations from these specifications must be cleared with the supervisor or Engineering
  • Repairs equipment within their capability and reports major problems to supervisor. Assists the Maintenance Department, LTA/Production Mechanic or Manufacturing Technician in major repairs.
  • Maintains equipment in working order to produce product within specified quality and quantity limits; adjusting, troubleshooting, cleaning and repairing as necessary.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on the equipment as specified in the plant preventative maintenance (PM) program or as needed for smooth operation.
  • Supports Continuous Improvement initiatives with relevant expertise.
  • Support Larger Projects within department, often as task owner.
  • Communicates and works well within a team environment both in school and in OJL.
  • Works closely with technical documentation.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly production environment to support 6S requirements.
  • Continually monitors relevant in-process quality, addressing issues as needed to prevent product holds. Performs and documents all required Q.C. checks.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to utilize all multimeter functions especially for low control voltage 4-20 milliamp and 0-10 volt DC.
  • Proficient with hand tools and general workshop equipment.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot input and output devices such as interlocks, pressure, flow, temperature, and their relevant PLC logic.
  • Able to identify and communicate effectively to Subject Matter Experts to solve complex problems.
  • Must be able to perform all physical duties such as heavy lifting, prolonged standing, bending, twisting and reaching.
  • Must be comfortable with working on a computer.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong computer skills, i.e. Excel/Word.
  • Passion for working on cutting-edge technologies and eagerness to learn new things.
  • Team player with excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of CAD software is desired.

Experience & Education

  • Must be a current Robotics Technician Level 1
  • 2 to 4 years of relevant Automation/Robotics/Controls manufacturing experience; prior military experience; or technical certification.
  • GED or High School diploma required

Working Conditions:

  • Constant exposure to indoor manufacturing environment
  • Constant exposure to moderate noise
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes, odors, hot / cold temperatures, inside / outside noise vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
  • Must be able to work first shift schedule.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds on a repetitive basis.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and work at heights on an intermittent basis for up to twelve (12) hours.
  • Requires hand manipulation including simple grasping, pushing and pulling of materials.
  • Must be able to safety operate an overhead crane, boom lift and manlift.
  • Must be able to reach and work above and below the shoulder level.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Visual acuity skill to detect any flaws in the parts being inspected.
