Principal Interventional Radiology Technologist

JOB SUMMARY

This position requires the individual to be flexible in their work schedule. This individual is considered an expert-level IR Tech. The ability to self-direct and to organize a varied workload is required. This incumbent demonstrates competency in assisting with VIR, Neuro Endovascular procedures and Vascular Surgery procedures from newborn through geriatric patient population.

The IR Technologist advanced responsibilities can include, yet are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrate competency actively and participate in the lead/coordinator role.
  • Active participation in an annual performance improvement project or active participation in IR
  • Quality Assurance/Radiation Safety meetings.
  • Demonstrate competency and the ability to instruct one or more of the advanced procedures.

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

  • Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System and related downtime procedure, to include the proper scheduling and completion of patient exams.
  • Demonstrates competency in the Medical Centers' current Electronic Health Record and ordering systems.
  • Demonstrates competency on the related Radiology systems.
  • Insures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested and performed.
  • Demonstrates competency in the Radiology PAC's System and related downtime procedure.
  • Demonstrates competency in the selection of the correct Visit Number.
  • Completes all exams in the radiology computer system following the procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the Incident Reporting System.
  • Utilizes hospital/department computers for hospital business only and logs off computers upon completion of tasks.

LEADERSHIP/SUPERVISION

  • Demonstrates leadership skills in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the ability to correctly prioritize and complete tasks, needing little or no supervision.

DEVELOPMENT

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice. Attends assigned staff development activities.
  • Participates in cross training activities when necessary.
  • Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
  • Stays current with the technical changes in the field of Interventional Radiology and Radiology by attending technical meeting, seminars, or by participating in other learning activities related to the field.
  • Complies with the department expectations and standards.
  • Complies with current ARRT and CRT accreditation regulations related to continuing education (CE) requirements.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

  • Participate in related performance improvement projects for the department and hospital.
  • Attends required hospital training, staff meetings and in-services.
  • Demonstrates effective use of time.
  • Is conscientious regarding the use of supplies.
  • Adheres to the productivity monitors for the department.
  • Assures patient information and billing codes are correct.
  • Identifies opportunities for cost containment.

Required Qualifications for Sr. IR Tech classification:

  • Minimum 3-6 years of IR experience for Sr. IR Tech. Minimum 7 years of IR experience for Principal IR Tech.
  • Previous experience in healthcare environment required (minimum 3-5 years).
  • Graduate of a formal radiology technology-training program in an AMA approved school.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to rotate shifts and coverage for weekends and holidays. Must be willing to assist at any of the UCSF Medical Center Locations
  • Must be willing to learn and train in Neuro-IR and Body-IR
  • Must be willing to circulate and fill scrubbing roles during procedures as necessary
  • Ability to self direct and organize a varied workload

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • ARRT Licensure
  • CRT Licensure
  • BLS (CPR) Certification
  • VIR Certification within 1 year of hire for Sr. IR Tech.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Prefer recent work experience in an acute care setting
  • Prefer VIR Certification or obtained within 1 year of hire

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
