The Anesthesia/Support Staff Supervisor provides the overall leadership of the Anesthesia Technicians, Equipment Technicians, Service Coordinators, Patient Care Assistants, and OR Support Assistants. The supervisor is responsible for the quality of the support services and the Anesthesia workroom, to include personnel management, management of systems and workflow, quality assurance, and participates in fiscal management and determining departmental goals. The Anesthesia/Support Staff Supervisor works under the direction of the Operating Room Manager of Support Services and is accountable to and evaluated by the OR support Services Manager. Supervises the activities of anesthesia technicians. May also supervise equipment technicians and patient care assistants. Assists with the administration and management of personnel, fiscal, and material resources.

Required qualifications:

  • Four (4) years of experience in a hospital environment
  • Solid subject matter knowledge to train and guide employees on anesthesia care and / or equipment techniques.
  • Knowledge of relevant medical center, HR and UC policies and processes.
  • Solid knowledge of relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
  • Solid customer service and diplomacy skills to resolve escalated issues in an effective manner.
  • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others throughout the organization.Maintains cooperative working relationships with professional and administrative staff, peers, multidisciplinary team members and management.
  • Ability to solve problems and suggest solutions through critical thinking process.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills to explain technical anesthesia concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Solid knowledge of organization's anesthesia documentation application programs.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a Lead or Supervisory role
  • Experience with bargaining unit agreements and Labor Relations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience with inventory control management
  • Knowledge of organization's anesthesia documentation application programs

License/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Cer.A.T. certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT) preferred.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
