TheEugene and Ruth Roberts Summer Student Academyis in search of several Instructors who will work under the supervision of the department Supervisor. This position helps students in a professional environment work on related research projects. Instructor activities include but not limited to moderating weekly group discussions; planning and supervising group activity; ensuring students complete all program requirements for example course assignment, social media participation and preparation for the student meeting (oral and poster presentations); organizing and chaperoning students for science related field trips; assisting with final reporting requirements; as time permits, assist with other assigned programs within the department.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Serve as a mentor and role model for academic and leadership behaviors within a professional environment as well as meet with students outside of class as needed.

  • Work closely with the department team to plan the syllabus, course content, informational meetings, outside activities, student meetings, etc.

  • Assist with planning, staffing and execution of the student meeting and preparing the final program report.

  • Inspire the students to approach their research activities in a creative and rigorous fashion.

  • Be reasonably accessible to students and their mentors/supervisors; provide assistance, encouragement and suggestions for any conflict resolution in cooperation with the PI.

  • Perform laboratory checks to ensure safety protocols are correctly followed and that the students are mentored appropriately.

  • Organize and chaperone off campus activities that are part of the program.

  • Assist with recording and tracking participants of the program.

Qualifications

Your qualifications should include:

  • High School Diploma.

  • One to two years related experience or equivalent trainer certification.
