As an intern you will gain valuable work experience in a professional environment. Our interns play an essential role in the departments they are part of, working on special projects, and networking with our teams.

Internship Purpose: This position will provide an opportunity to work closely with our team of Credit Analysts, Commercial Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and Loan Servicing team members.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Input financial statement data into company software and analyze to determine credit worthiness of client.
  • Prepare cash flow worksheets to demonstrate borrower's ability to repay loans.
  • Gain exposure to the loan approval process by completing credit memos. Input data, build tables, and borrowers' relationships into presentation.
  • Develop a working knowledge of loan policy and gain the ability to communicate its interpretation to loan committee.
  • Research regulations and compliance related to bank policy and procedures.
  • Scans credit file documents, then reviews the documents ensuring the image quality and file is complete.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed, including special projects as assigned projects related to Marketing, including performing research, compiling data and making recommendations.
  • Interpersonal skills to meet and deal effectively with the banks in a courteous manner responding to a variety of situations with professional discretions.
  • Shadow CRMs during the sales call process with prospective clients.
  • Must comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Must complete the assigned online training courses and achieve a passing score by due date.
  • Regular and predictable attendance to accomplish job duties and provide in-person contact with customers.

About You

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be pursing a degree in Finance or Accounting with MSU College of Business
  • Desire to purse a career in Community Banking
  • A high degree of reliability and dependability used to follow-through and meet commitments and agreements in a timely manner
  • Exhibits excellent responsiveness and follow-up in assuming responsibility for and delivering on commitments
  • Demonstrated high level of quality, accuracy and attention to detail.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITY:

  • Ability to be a highly motivated self-starter with intense focus on results and winning.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Internship will begin May 2026 through August 2026
  • Expected work days are Monday through Friday 8-5. Flexibility of working hours will be available

Evaluation methods will include communication with supervisor and lenders. Students requesting credit for internship will be required to submit periodic and final reports summarizing their experience and knowledge gained through the internship.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level.

Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: The employee is constantly required to stand and walk. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.
