Position Summary:
This position will perform graded exercise stress tests, metabolic exercise tests and other related cardiac diagnostic procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Checks supplies and calibrates metabolic cart each morning. Performs calibrations to standard and is able to troubleshoot problems when calibration quality is poor. Records data in permanent folder. Performs routine maintenance on equipment and knows procedures for getting technical support from manufacturers. Maintains ample inventory and cleans exam rooms.
  • Obtains requisition and assures accurate data prior to test. Interviews patient and/or family to obtain other pertinent details regarding diagnosis, symptoms, and medications. Assesses the need for a physician in attendance and arranges accordingly.
  • Independently performs standard exercise stress test as well as nuclear medicine stress test and accurately records all data including patient appearance, blood pressure, heart rate, ECG changes, transcutaneous oximetry as requested, lung sounds if pertinent.
  • Independently performs metabolic exercise stress tests and accurately runs treadmill with ECG cart and metabolic cart. Obtains maximum Vo2 uptake, Co2 output, heart rate, blood pressure, ECG, transcutaneous oximetry as requested, patient appearance, and lung sounds if pertinent.
  • Writes full report including all above data, evaluating patient compliance and tolerance to exercise, assesses symptom correlation if any, and interprets ECG findings. Enters data into computer and forwards hard copy to physicians/director for review. Sends out final reports in a timely manner and to all appropriate recipients.
  • Runs all exercise equipment: Treadmill, leg ergometer, Max 1 ECG cart, and metabolic cart. Is familiar with common protocols and assesses when change in protocol is warranted.
  • Acts as clinical supervisor and coordinates student internships. Completes the student performance evaluation forms. Uses non-scheduled time appropriately by performing duties in the ECG lab. Performs ECGs, Oxygen Saturation Tests, and halter cardiac rhythm monitor placements. Reads and analyzes test results.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelors degree required in Exercise Physiology. Master's degree preferred.
Experience:
  • One year of clinical experience.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
