Plan and implement a developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum for enrolled three-five-year-old children. The Child Development Supervisor is also responsible for the supervision of assigned interns, practicum students, volunteers, & individuals conducting research in the classroom. Duties & Responsibilities:
Planning and implementation of daily classroom and outdoor activities which focus on child health/safety and are designed to promote development in all areas (cognitive, intellectual, social, emotional, & fine/large motor). Includes creating lesson plans, interacting with children, and documentation of learning. Attend to the physical needs of the children including supervision of dressing, feeding, napping and toileting. Observe and evaluate children's developmental patterns using the UIC Children's Center assessment methods and corresponding assessment tools. Adjust classroom activities according to information gathered. Maintain daily communication and partnerships with parents of children. Includes development of weekly classroom related newsletters, preparing and conducting parent/teacher conferences, sharing information related to developmental screenings and assessments and share additional resources/referrals when appropriate. Additionally, participate in family events held at the UIC Children's Center. Work with other team members to maintain a clean, organized, and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children.
Minimum Qualifications Required: 1. Possession of credentials required by Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for employment as a Child Care Worker in a licensed child care facility. Bachelor's degree in child development, education, or related fields, including 18 semester hours of credit for course work directly related to child development and/or child care**, of which 6 semester hours must be for the period from birth to age six OR B. Two years of experience comparable to that gained at the lower level of this series and 18 additional semester hours of credit for college course work directly related to child development and/or child care** **Note: Courses that cover the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of young children and/or courses relating specifically to the group care and education of young children; e.g., curriculum, programming, pre-school teaching methods, discipline and child management, observation of children, working with parents, health, nutrition and safety, and supervised teaching experience for which credit is earned (such as student teaching, clinical experience, or practicum).
