Job Description
The purpose of this position is to perform campus-wide maintenance functions. This is accomplished by conducting routine inspections of buildings and equipment; completing preventative maintenance operations; maintaining log sheets of completed work; responding to emergency work order situations; greasing motors and equipment; repairing roads and sidewalks; servicing light fixtures; conducting light carpentry work; and repairing or replacing necessary equipment and parts.

Other duties include monitoring pool chemical levels; troubleshooting systems, changing caustic soda barrels out of the domestic water system; hanging pictures and repairing walls, completing grounds work; and posting College signs.

This is a non-exempt staff position.

Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia; non-residents are expected to relocate to meet this requirement.

Required Education
High school diploma/ GED

Pool Operators license required within one year of employment.
Required Experience
Minimum of three years' work experience in a related field required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Basic plumbing, electrical, and carpentry skills
  • Skilled painter and sheetrock finisher

  • HVAC knowledge
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to prioritize maintenance tasks and work independently
  • Competent computer skill with abilities to navigate building automation to diagnose mechanical issues, ability to use online web portals to track work hours and ability to send emails and respond to work orders.
  • Organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Five years' experience in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall and finish work.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment and a trade license and/or certification are preferred.

Hours per Week 40 - 100%
General Weekly Work Schedule
Work hours are from 7 AM till 3 PM Monday thru Friday with occasional Saturday hours and a rotating 1PM to 9PM shift every 11 weeks.
