Job Description
The Group Counselor will be a key member of the CU Denver Student and Community Counseling Center (SCCC), responsible for leading the development, implementation, and revitalization of the Center's group therapy and workshop program. This role will organize and facilitate groups and workshops, support other staff and trainees in developing their own offerings, and provide clinical training and consultation to licensed-level staff and trainees interested in group work.
The Group Counselor will build and pilot a new group program for one year, with opportunity for continued funding if sucessful. This position requires experience running therapeutic groups and psychoeducational workshops, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative spirit. Certification as a Group Psychotherapist through the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA) is preferred.

Group Counselor Fellowship - Group Counselor:
What you will do:
Core Responsibilities (All Levels):
* Lead the development and execution of a strategic plan for group therapy and workshop programming at the Counseling Center.
* Facilitate therapeutic groups and psychoeducational workshops for students.
* Re-launch and sustain group and workshop services that have been inactive, including assessment of student needs and program evaluation.
* Drive traffic to the groups and workshops programming at the center via outreach, advertising, and campus engagement.
* Develop systems and protocols for tracking group/workshop participation and evaluating impact.
* Provide general outreach mental health topics to student groups, faculty, and staff as needed.
* Provide culturally responsive, short-term individual, crisis, and group counseling as caseload permits.
* Maintain accurate documentation of clinical services and program activities.
* Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, training seminars, and center-wide initiatives.

Additional Responsibilities at the Senior Level
(In addition to all core responsibilities):
* Support and mentor staff and trainees in designing and delivering their own group and workshop offerings.
* Provide clinical consultation and training to licensed-level staff and trainees interested in group work.
* Provide clinical supervision to trainees, fellows, and practicum students as assigned.

Qualifications you already possess (Minimum Qualifications)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Group Counselor Fellowship (Intermediate Level):
* Advanced degree in counseling, psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work, or a related field by 5/30/26.
* Registration with DORA in Colorado as a mental health licensure candidate (i.e. LPCC, MFTC, SWC/LSW) by 5/30/26.
* One (1) year of clinical experience; may include internship or fellowship training.
* Experience facilitating therapeutic groups or psychoeducational workshops.
Group Counselor (Licensed):
* Advanced degree in a counseling-related field from an accredited institution.
* Colorado licensure as LPC, LMFT, LCSW by 5/30/26.
* At least two (2) years of clinical experience.
* Demonstrated experience in group therapy and workshop facilitation.

Preferred Qualification to possess (Preferred Qualifications)
* Certification as a Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP) through AGPA.
* One (1) or more years of experience in outreach, public speaking, or campus engagement.
* Clinical experience working with college student populations.
* Experience developing and delivering mental health presentations.
* Bilingual or multilingual counseling abilities.
* Experience developing systems or protocols within clinical or outreach settings.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
* Ability to provide effective short-term psychotherapy, and work as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
* Strong knowledge of mental health care systems, especially in higher education.
* Ability to communicate effectively in public settings and with diverse audiences.
* Confidence in managing group and workshop logistics and making strategic decisions.
* Collaborative, reliable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary setting.
* Ability to work autonomously, exercise sound judgment, and engage in reflective supervision.
* Strong organizational and project management skills.
* Ability to maintain/contribute to a positive team environment.
* Friendly and engaging attitude.
* Adaptable to ongoing organizational change.
* Outstanding customer/mental health consumer service skills.
* Ability to provide culturally sensitive services for clients of diverse backgrounds.
* Proactive approach to problem solving and programmatic initiative.

Conditions of Employment
* Termed funding - Position is funded through May 27, 2027
* Occasional work during the evening and/or weekends may be required.
* This position follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely or from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

Mental, Physical, and/or Environmental Requirements
* The ability to sit for extended periods, stand and walk occasionally, reach with hands and arms, use hands to manipulate a keyboard and mouse, and have good near vision for computer work;often requiring minimal lifting, but may involve bending or reaching to retrieve items from shelves or drawers.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at the following levels $70,683 - $73,100 (Intermediate Professional) $73,100 - $79,739 (Senior Professional)
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.
