Description

The Queens County District Attorney's Office has an opening for a Reference Law Librarian. In this position the Librarian is responsible for maintaining all physical library materials and offering legal and other types of research services to the entire office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:



  • Order and distribute books and other written legal materials throughout the office
  • Maintain and access a wide array of legal reference materials
  • Provide expert, in-depth legal research assistance to a diverse user base
  • Access and research legislative history, such as bill jackets and floor debates, for criminal and related statutes
  • Research criminal justice policy related articles, data reports, and law reviews for members of the office
  • Engage in person-to-person and zoom conferences to discuss research issues
  • Teach members of the office how to effectively use a wide array of resources, including print materials, online catalogs, and specialized legal, medical, psychological and other databases. This includes developing and teaching formal research classes or workshops
  • Develop and maintain research guides, pathfinders, bibliographies, and other instructional materials in various formats (print, web-based, video tutorials) to help users navigate complex legal information efficiently
  • Manage a budget, collect usage data, and contribute to the development and implementation of library policies
  • Work with other library departments, legal educators, and external organizations to promote library services, develop programs, and align resources with current legal trends and educational needs.
  • Facilitate interlibrary loans
  • Research expert witnesses and maintain an expert witness database
  • Perform related duties


Minimum Qualification Requirement, candidates must possess the following:



  • Bachelor's degree


Preferred Requirements/Skills:



  • Master of Library Science (MLS) degree
  • Experience in legal research or library work
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and computer skills
  • Excellent Electronic Information search strategies and techniques
  • Superior organizational, time management, writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of staff
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workflow
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to follow directions and apply proper policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and high concern for accuracy
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral

Salary Range: $87,000 - $97,000 (commensurate with experience)
