Work Schedule
7:00 am -3:30 pm; Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.

This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
To maintain clean and sanitary conditions in classrooms, labs, lecture halls, offices, common areas, restrooms and various other areas within Academic, Athletic, Administrative buildings, The Dubois Center Co-Lab and on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte .
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Essential Job Duties

  • Understands and complies with University Safety, State, and OSHA requirements. Follows safety guidelines. Practices appropriate physical and safety techniques; use proper safety gear and equipment. Takes action to correct hazards. Uses and identifies personal protective and safety equipment when appropriate and/or required. Identifies and corrects conditions that affect employee safety; upholding safety standards. Reads MSDS and original labels before applying or mixing chemicals. Insures chemicals are labeled and environmentally safe receiving minimal supervision.


  • Takes active role in promoting and talking about health and safety issues. Properly operates/uses equipment in a safe manner with minimal supervision. Actively notifies supervisor and lead person of safety concerns; assists co workers in safety and health issues, and makes recommendations for resolution. Attends training and receives proper information pertaining to equipment, safety and/or emergency procedures, and accident reporting. Takes appropriate action to correct hazards. Reports and responds to accidents appropriately and in a timely manner. Identifies and informs supervisor or campus police of potential safety problems.
  • Ensures proper mixing and/or diluting of chemicals according to original labels. Ensures chemicals are labelled and environmentally safe. Ensures safe storage of chemicals. Reports outdated or improperly stored chemicals. The proper use of cleaning liquids (floor strippers, floor finish, disinfectants, detergents, etc.) when mopping, stripping, and waxing floors. Reads safety manuals. Ensures equipment is properly operated and maintained. Services and/or replaces cleaning and maintenance equipment and machinery.

  • Recognizes potential problems in service; addresses and resolves the issues promptly. Builds and sustains productive customer and interdepartmental relationships. Makes customers and their needs a primary focus of one's actions. Demonstrates the ability to adapt schedule to customer's needs.
