Security Clearance Required: Active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility and be enrolled in Continuous Evaluation/Vetting

The Journeyman Security Specialist independently supports Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Program (SAP) security administration. This role involves managing all aspects of security, including personnel, physical, operations, communications, and associated oversight, for assigned SCI and SAP facilities. The Journeyman Security Specialist ensures compliance with applicable policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.

Duties & Responsibilities



  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will support daily operations in coordination with the Special Security Representative (SSR) or Government SAP Security Officer (GSSO) to implement enhanced security policies and procedures.
  • Perform visitor control duties, including greeting, documenting, and monitoring access for personnel, visitors, contractors, inspectors, and tour groups. Validate security clearances using DISS or other security databases, maintain visitor logs, and process visit request documentation packages.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will conduct visitor escort duties for assigned facilities and events, and support the training of additional escorts as required.
  • Support document control and configuration management, including data entry and maintenance of security databases.
  • Assist with Personnel Access Requests / Access nomination processing.
  • Support the classification, handling, transport, and destruction of classified or sensitive information.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will support creation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Facility Check-In/Check-Out procedures, Fixed Facility Checklists, Security Education and Training materials, OPSEC Plans, Security Classification Guides, and other security documentation.
  • Support classified meeting preparation, including facility readiness, attendee clearance validation, and presentation material classification review.
  • Maintain program access lists and security documentation.
  • Support self-inspections, including checklist preparation and compliance assessments.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will assist with media control and inventory functions, as well as COMSEC processing, inventory, and control.
  • Perform physical security inspections and support indoctrination and debriefings.
  • Track and monitor foreign travel for personnel.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will support facility security management duties, including key/control management, facility security inspections, alarm response, and maintaining IDS and other facility security systems.
  • Support preparation and submission of all required TEMPEST documentation.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will maintain DISS accounts to perform all personnel security functions.
  • The Journeyman Security Specialist will perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)



  • Knowledge of SCI and SAP security policies and procedures, including personnel security, physical security, operations security (OPSEC), and communications security (COMSEC) requirements.
  • Knowledge of SCIF and SAPF security operations, including access control, visitor control procedures, and safeguarding of classified information.
  • Skill in processing personnel security actions, including visit requests, personnel access requests, clearance verification, and maintenance of security records using systems such as DISS.
  • Skill in maintaining security documentation and records, including visitor logs, program access lists, and classified material accountability in accordance with applicable security policies.
  • Ability to conduct security self-inspections and physical security checks, identify potential vulnerabilities, and support corrective actions to ensure compliance with government security standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, while interacting with government personnel, program staff, and visitors in a secure environment.


Minimum / General Experience



  • Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) eligibility and be enrolled in Continuous Evaluation/Vetting.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting SCIF or SAPF security programs, including the ability to independently conduct security administration, self-inspections, and government accreditation inspections without guidance or training.
  • For candidates supporting dual facilities (SCIF and SAPF), a minimum of five years of experience in one facility type and significant experience in the other is required.
  • Ideal applicants have hands-on experience in roles such as Facility Security Officer (FSO), Special Security Officer (SSO), Certified SCIF Security Officer (CSSO), Site Security Representative (SSR), or Government SAPF Security Officer (GSSO).


Minimum Education



  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must obtain Security Fundamental Professional Certification (SFPC) within one (1) year of employment and maintain it for the duration of employment.
