Job Description

The Maintenance Technician position requires a high level of technical expertise and commitment to maintaining critical systems and infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Executing comprehensive maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, including critical preventive maintenance, precise ductwork modifications, and proper refrigerant handling.
  • Conducting essential plumbing and electrical repairs, encompassing water pipe modifications, insulation work, and appliance maintenance to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Strictly adhering to all applicable regulations and safety standards (OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, NFPA, ASME, NEC) in all work activities, without exception.
  • Efficiently completing assigned work orders and preventive maintenance tasks with utmost attention to detail and timeliness.
  • Providing crucial support for general maintenance tasks, including pest control, minor repairs, and cleaning as required by facility needs.
  • Engaging in professional collaboration with managers and supervisors to maintain optimal operating conditions of all systems, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Demonstrating advanced problem-solving skills, swiftly identifying issues and implementing appropriate, effective solutions.
  • Maintaining clear, concise, and professional communication, both verbal and written, with all relevant parties to ensure seamless operations.
  • Exhibiting exemplary time management skills, effectively prioritizing tasks, and consistently maintaining high standards of work quality and personal accountability.
  • Committing to continuous professional development, regularly updating job knowledge and skills to meet evolving maintenance requirements and industry standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Academic training related to refrigeration, electricity, and/or plumbing is required.
  • Must have a valid license and be a member of a professional association related to HVAC and refrigeration (mandatory).
  • Certification in air conditioning and refrigeration systems is requered.
  • Four years of professional experience working with refrigeration, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge in the following areas: refrigeration, air conditioning, electrical safety, piping, pipe fittings, rotating machinery (pumps, air compressors, etc.), and basic plumbing.
  • Basic knowledge of refrigeration, motors, and mechanical operating theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and equipment specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to diagnose complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work order tracking and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with energy management systems and energy-efficient maintenance practices.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment, complying with company policies, quality policies, and industry standards.
  • Ability to understand schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, working in awkward positions in confined spaces, and climbing with hands, lifting 25 pounds, and working on ladders/lifts at heights.
  • Ability to work in an environment that requires exposure to fumes, odors, noise, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed for emergency repairs.
  • Certification under Puerto Rico Law 300.
  • Valid state driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Other tasks may be assigned.
