Business Manager, Corporate Communications & Events

Location(s): Remote

Role Type: Full time

Salary: $150,000 - $175,000 per year + Sales Incentive Compensation

Actual compensation offered will be determined individually, based on a number of job-related factors, including location, skills, licensure, experience, and education.

Summary:

The Business Manager oversees Corporate Communications, Event Planning, and Strategic Governance support. This role is accountable for enabling the company's strategic roadmap through effective governance, cross functional coordination, and execution of key initiatives. Responsibilities include project oversight, enterprise alignment, and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Meeting & Event Planning: Lead the strategic planning and execution of large-scale meetings and events for senior leadership, including regional and divisional stakeholders. This includes end-to-end ownership of event delivery-from defining objectives and developing agendas aligned to business priorities, to venue selection, speaker coordination, and on-site logistics. Partner crossfunctionally with internal teams and external vendors to anticipate needs, manage timelines, and ensure seamless execution. Consistently deliver high-quality, well-organized events that enhance engagement, support leadership objectives, and reinforce strategic messaging.
  • Travel on site to these events, acting as the Highland quarterback. Travel will include approximately 6 - 10 events per year.
  • Governance manager: Project Tracking & Strategic Pillars & EMC: Oversee and track progress on all major projects and strategic pillars, ensuring alignment with team goals and timely execution on each project. Aspects of this role will require the business manager to engage with various teams to efficiently track follow-ups from meetings or offsites and ensure deliverables are met in a timely manner. This includes execution of the Strategic Roadmap and overall Governance work produced by the executive management team.
  • KPI Management: Support teams in defining, maintaining, and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs), monitoring progress throughout the year, and identifying areas for improvement. Once those KPIs are determined, the business manager will package and present these to the President on a weekly basis and/or to other internal partners as necessary.
  • Project Reporting: Develop and maintain project status trackers, providing clear visibility into project milestones, deliverables, and timelines. The business manager will be responsible for providing updates to senior leadership as necessary.
  • Executive Communications: Prepare a weekly summary packet for the President, and comprehensive packet for the EMC monthly, detailing the status of each project or strategic initiative, provide insights on upcoming deliverables, and the critical actions required for completion. The business manager will manage various communication channels to properly report the progress to internal and external partners, including email, Teams, and any other communication methods leveraged by the advisors.
  • Executive/Corporate Presentations: Maintain and develop pitch decks and other like decks/reporting. Source of truth on pitch decks, inventory of to whom, and what Highland story is being communicated.
  • Town Halls & Internal Newsletter and Company Wide correspondence: Create and distribute both recurring and ad hoc internal communications to internal partners, summarizing project updates, progress, and the impact on advisors.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for communicating project changes and updates to institutional and carrier partners, ensuring transparency on key deliverables and alignment of strategic goals.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams to facilitate project execution, resolve roadblocks, and drive accountability across the teams
  • Public Relations: Drive activities in the marketplace to optimize Highland's presence

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10+ years' experience in corporate functions leading projects
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools such Power BI

Basic Requirements:

  • Strong analytical skills with ability to perform analysis and identify areas of improvement and implement solutions
  • Familiarity with wholesale life insurance industry and practices
  • Excellent diligence and accuracy in work
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to think critically
  • Strong ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate findings and recommendations clearly and effectively to various stakeholders, including senior management
  • Ability to anticipate potential issues and develop preventive measures to mitigate risks
