The Opportunity

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a skilled Automotive Technician to join the Facilities Management Transportation team on the Daytona Beach Campus. This role is responsible for maintaining the reliability and safety of university-owned vehicles and grounds maintenance equipment through accurate diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance.

The Automotive Technician will troubleshoot mechanical issues, perform repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, and ensure that all work is completed in accordance with University safety standards. The position also involves road testing vehicles after repairs, performing basic welding and body work when needed, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative facilities environment supporting campus operations while contributing to the efficiency and safety of the University's transportation fleet. The Automotive Technician may also assist in supervising student employees and supporting daily shop operations as needed.

Compensation

The annual salary range for this position is ______. The final offer will consider the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience, along with applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues in automotive vehicles and/or grounds maintenance equipment.

  • Ability to perform general automotive repairs and preventative maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, tools, and repair procedures.

  • Basic welding experience, including electrical and acetylene welding.

  • Ability to perform vehicle road testing after repairs.

  • Ability to maintain a safe and organized work area and follow departmental safety policies and procedures.

  • Ability to use a computer or tablet/iPad for time entry and basic work documentation.

  • Must provide and maintain personal tools required to perform job duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience performing auto body repair and painting.

  • Prior experience working with fleet vehicles, maintenance equipment, or institutional transportation departments.

  • Experience supervising or assisting student or part-time employees.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to lift, move, and work with automotive equipment and tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced facilities environment.
