Job Overview:

The Manager of Language Services will serve the RWJBH Patient Experience leadership team in maintaining a robust language services program, including the design and deployment of a Language Access Plan (in accordance with RWJBH s Health Equity accreditation). This health care professional will support the program aim of maintaining optimal patient and family centered communication between RWJBH staff and patients and families with varying language needs (including Deaf/Hard of Hearing and Blind/Low Vision populations). This pivotal role serves in a support capacity to system and facility leaders in ensuring RWJBH meets regulatory mandates regarding patient rights for communication (i.e., Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and ADA). This includes, but not limited to, overseeing all interpretation and translation needs for LEP patients, monitoring quality of services (including compliance of utilization), and facilitating educational workshops. Providing skills, knowledge, and tools as well as updating and maintaining relevant policies and procedures will be critical to aid all staff in effective communication with patients, families, and staff with language service needs. Additionally, this individual will drive performance improvement, cost effectiveness, and operational excellence. Reporting to the VP of Patient Experience, this leader will actively collaborate with all levels of leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational goals related to language service performance, and ensure equitable access and outcomes for all patients and their companions.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Communications, Business, Health Administration) or equivalent years of experience in leading language services
  • 5+ years of experience in healthcare-focused roles
  • Proficiency in analyzing performance metrics and applying data-driven insights
  • Strong project management and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in related field preferred
  • Bi/Multi-lingual preferred
  • Experience in developing curriculum preferred

Essential Job Functions:

  • Explains the reasoning and data behind organizational shifts or policy changes,
  • Invites Feedback: Actively solicits input before finalizing decisions that impact the teams daily workflow,

Planning & Organization

  • Creates, defines, and socializes the language service program and organizational Language Access Plan (LAP), working closely with RWJBH Communication Team, Legal, Quality, Risk ,Health Equity, Compliance and other key Leaders across RWJBH
  • Leverages program management skillset to ensure timely program execution
  • Oversees any research projects associated with Language Services in conjunction with key parties such as local universities

  • Addresses Friction Early: Intervenes in interpersonal or inter-departmental tensions before they escalate,
  • Facilitates Solutions: Coach disagreeing parties to identify the best solution for the patient, companions and the health system
