Job Description

General Summary:

The Policy & Alliance Development Associate Directorsupports the development and execution of policy initiatives and strategic alliances that align with corporate objectives and the goals of Vertex's kidney disease business. This role focuses on assisting in the creation of reimbursement policy strategies, supporting policy development to improve patient access to therapies (e.g., reducing patient cost burdens and maintaining patient protections), and collaborating on disease awareness, clinical trial awareness, and screening campaigns with strategic partners. The Associate Director works closely with disease area leaders, Public Affairs leadership, and teams across State Affairs, Federal Affairs, and Advocacy to ensure alignment and successful implementation of initiatives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages a portfolio of patient association partnerships, including supporting the development and maintenance of relationships with key stakeholders and ensuring alignment with local organizations in partnership with state and grassroots teams.

  • Assists in the launch and governance of new partnershipsand supports the ongoing management of existing alliances. Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals, expectations, and performance metrics for strategic partnerships.

  • Supports the development and execution of policy strategiesto advance disease area objectives, including product reimbursement policy, regulatory engagement, and patient access initiatives, in collaboration with senior leadership.

  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of disease-specific position statements and educational materials, working with government affairs and other teams to tailor content as needed.

  • Collaborates with consultantsto ensure deliverables are high-quality, timely, and aligned with organizational goals.

  • Serves as a key liaison to internal committees, providing updates on USPA priorities and gathering input to inform strategic direction.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong strategic planning, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Experience in the pharmaceutical or non-profit sector, with a focus on therapeutic areas.

  • Background in patient advocacy, government affairs, managed markets, or public policy.

  • Understanding of the drug development process and regulatory requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across teams and influence stakeholders at various levels of the organization.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.

  • Typically requires 7+ years of experienceor an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Direct experience in kidney disease is preferred but not required

Pay Range:

$178,000 - $267,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
