The Opportunity

We are seeking a Project Manager, Business Development (Transactional)to join our Firm. This position will be based in our New York office (hybrid). The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting business development initiatives for the New York M&A practice, with a focus on a broad range of business and practice development activities. This includes collaborating with the pitch team to prepare new business proposals and presentations; partnering with the events team on client-facing events and webinars; assisting with client targeting efforts; conducting research in support of meetings with existing and prospective clients; identifying and recommending profile-raising opportunities for partners; and working with the PR team on thought leadership initiatives designed to promote the Firm's services to current and prospective clients.

In this role, the Business Development Project Manager will report to the Associate Director, Business Development, M&A, and will support a variety of functions across the U.S. and global Business Development & Marketing (BDM) Department.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to business development initiatives, including developing and maintaining existing and prospective client lists and related pipeline management tools.

  • Provides ongoing support for new business pitches, proposals, and responses to RFPs. Ensures that all pitch and marketing materials are current, consistent, and accurately reflect the messaging and capabilities of Skadden's M&A practice.

  • Collaborates with Marketing Content team to update a variety of written materials, including practice area descriptions, attorney biographies, news items, internal newsletters, and other marketing collateral, in collaboration with practice leaders.

  • Collaborates and connects the dots between larger BDM team, coordinating client targeting efforts across the transactional BD team, with team members in other offices and serves as a resource for regional information

  • Maintains comprehensive records and tracking documents for business development activities s

  • Supports the planning and execution of client-facing educational and social events, including webinars, seminars, conferences, receptions, and dinners.

  • Manages and oversees the updating of mailing lists and client data in InterAction (CRM), coordinates the cleanup of regional contact lists, and assists Associate Director with tracking practice and partner business activities.

  • Assists in preparing for partner and counsel business development meetings.

  • Conducts client research and supports initiatives to promote the Firm's services to both existing and prospective clients.

  • Manage and mentor junior team members.

  • Maintains confidentiality, continuous concentration, alertness and attention to detail necessary to uphold Skadden's standards. Duties are varied and regularly require logic, analysis and discretion. Often handles issues not covered by standard practices.

Qualifications

  • Broad and thorough knowledge of marketing in a large law firm environment

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing

  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills

  • Complies with and understands Firm operation, policies and procedures

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and research skills, including ability to evaluate existing systems and create new ones

  • Ability to synthesize data and accurately capture it in a narrative

  • Strong listening and consultative skills

  • Knowledge of relevant firm computer software programs (e.g. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM, database management), with the ability to learn new software and operating systems

  • Demonstrates close attention to detail

  • Ability to handle multiple projects and shifting priorities

  • Ability to handle sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work

  • Ability to work well in a demanding and fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work well independently as well as effectively within a team

  • Ability to use discretion and exercise independent and sound judgment

  • Flexibility to adjust hours and work the hours necessary to meet operating and business needs

  • Flexibility to travel

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Minimum of 6 years in marketing and/or business development in the professional services arena with a preference for law experience required

The starting base salary for this position is expected to be within the range listed under Salary Details. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other-job related factors, consistent with applicable law.

$170,000 - $190,000
