Saint John's Health Center Foundation (SJHCF) is seeking a visionary, resultsdriven Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) to shape and advance a bold, comprehensive philanthropy strategy that fuels medical excellence, innovation, continuous improvement, and compassionate patient care.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a highly respected organization with a deeply engaged Board of Trustees, a strong and growing donor pipeline, and significant momentum for philanthropic growth. The CPO will play a pivotal leadership role in building upon this foundation-driving transformational impact and expanding the reach and influence of philanthropy in service to the Saint John's community.

The Role:

Reporting to the President & CEO of Saint John's Health Center Foundation, the Chief Philanthropy Officer serves as the senior executive responsible for designing, executing, and overseeing an integrated, enterprisewide philanthropy strategy aligned with SJHCF's mission, values, and longterm strategic priorities.

The CPO is a champion for philanthropy and a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for fostering a culture of generosity, stewardship, and partnership across the organization. This leader will guide the continued evolution of a unified, highperforming, and agile foundation-leveraging best practices, technology, and datadriven insight to deliver sustainable, transformative philanthropic results.

Working closely with the Board of Trustees, health center executives, physicians, foundation colleagues, donors, volunteers, and community stakeholders, the CPO will inspire philanthropy, deepen engagement, and ensure SJHCF is positioned for longterm growth and impact.

What You'll Do:

Strategic Vision & Enterprise Leadership



  • Develop and lead a comprehensive, integrated philanthropy strategy aligned with organizational priorities, community health goals, and growth to $50M annually.
  • Integrate philanthropy teams, systems, and processes into a cohesive, highperforming enterprise with shared goals, benchmarks, and accountability.
  • Provide strategic fundraising counsel to clinical institutes, service lines, and volunteer leaders, including Board and committee development.
  • Assess and strengthen infrastructure to maximize growth opportunities, including grateful patient fundraising, donor pipeline development, and capital and transformational campaign planning.
  • Monitor philanthropic trends and innovations and continuously evolve strategy using best practices.


Relationship Building & Collaboration



  • Build trusted relationships across a complex, matrixed organization and with external partners.
  • Serve as a compelling communicator and storyteller who inspires, aligns, and builds trust.
  • Collaborate with hospital, foundation, physician, and institute leadership on short and longterm strategic planning and fundraising priorities.
  • Motivate donors, volunteers, and teams around missiondriven goals.
  • Bring a confident, authentic leadership presence that resonates within Saint John's Health Center and the broader community.


Team Leadership & Talent Development



  • Build, lead, and retain a diverse, highperforming philanthropy team through coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Clarify expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and develop team capabilities to achieve ambitious organizational goals.

Donor Engagement & Stewardship



  • Manage a personal portfolio of 50+ donors.
  • Build strong, effective partnerships with the Board of Trustees.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, principal donors, foundations, corporate partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Oversee donor engagement strategies including recognition, impact reporting, and personalized stewardship.
  • Represent SJHCF at key philanthropic events and public forums.


Operational Excellence & Financial Stewardship



  • Establish consistent policies, procedures, metrics, and performance standards across all philanthropic activities.
  • Lead datadriven fundraising efforts that build robust donor pipelines and diversified revenue streams.
  • Ensure development programs are compliant, ethically sound, and aligned with financial best practices.
  • Partner with Finance and Operations/IT to optimize systems, reporting, and infrastructure.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor philanthropy budgets; hold self and others accountable for results.
  • Identify growth opportunities, manage risk, and continuously improve programs to exceed organizational and donor expectations.


Communication & Advocacy



  • Partner with the Foundation President and Marketing to develop clear, compelling, and consistent messaging.
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Saint John's Health Center Foundation internally and externally.
  • Engage Board members, senior leaders, physicians, caregivers, volunteers, and donors to strengthen alignment and trust.
  • Articulate a compelling case for healthcare philanthropy and celebrate philanthropic impact across Saint John's.

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree (required) .
  • Master's Degree (preferred) .
  • 10+ years of professional fundraising leadership, including major gift programs and capital and/or comprehensive campaigns.
  • 10+ years of experience managing large, sophisticated development teams across multiple functions.
  • 5+ years of experience guiding capital or comprehensive campaigns (preferred) .
  • 5+ years of experience with Blackbaud / Raiser's Edge CRM (preferred) .

The full pay range is listed in accordance with applicable law. Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, organizational compensation alignment, and the approved hiring department budget for the position. This position may also be eligible for incentive compensation and benefits.

Further, we want our leaders to live in or near the communities we serve. Therefore, leaders applying for this role will be required to work a hybrid schedule, which consists of three days onsite, two days remote and live within a reasonable commuting distance to the ministry or service area they support and lead.

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors. These amounts are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.
