Job Summary Scottsdale Community College (SCC) is seeking a full-time HVAC Specialist Principal. This position will oversee and participate in the most complex and difficult work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and service of central plant equipment, including HVAC and refrigeration systems, AHU, pumps, motors, VAVs, BMS controls, and Chiller maintenance. Essential Functions 35% - Oversees the operations of the central plant; inspects plant operations and performs required maintenance and repairs, and maintains logs and records of work performed. Independently and efficiently operates the plant and equipment in any operational situation, providing operational and mechanical services support, including performing diagnostics to troubleshoot and identify issues to resolve. 35%- Operates, maintains, repairs, and monitors all electrical systems, controls, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, water treatment testing, AHU, VAVs, compressors, split systems, package units, pumps, motors, and other related HVAC and central plant equipment. 20%- Plans, develops, directs, and participates in regularly scheduled PMs of all assigned equipment. 10%- Routinely serves as the designated subject matter expert for HVAC and central plant operation and projects. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: This classification may be assigned to lead other regular staff. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of experience performing journey-level HVAC work, which includes three (3) years of experience operating central plant systems. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED. Desired Qualifications A. 5 years of experience performing journeyman-level HVAC work, which includes 2 years of experience operating a central plant. B. 4 years of experience doing preventive maintenance on air handling units, package and split systems, VAVs, cooling towers, pumps, motors, ice machines, and controls. C. 5 years of experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, operating, and programming automated and computerized building and energy management systems. Metasys D. 4 years of experience doing daily readings on cooling tower water, knowledge of the functions of the cooling tower. E. 5 years of experience with using a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) F. 5 years of experience as a lead worker on projects, and assigning and monitoring the work of others. G. Current universal refrigerant certification H. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years. Special Working Conditions
