Job Description

General Summary:

The Pharmacology Research Scientist works witha high degree ofindependence and is adept at conceptually outliningin vivoandin vitroimmunologicalstudies to design, execute and interpretassays to study the action of compounds on disease biology.Completes work in a resourceful, self-sufcientmanner andis able todesign alternative approaches to achieve desired outcomes. Keeps current on thescienticliterature relevant toscienticmethodologyor eld(s) of technicalexpertise. This level captures both the Research organization's entry level for staff with a research doctoral degree (PhD) and the advanced experimental expert leading one or more critical laboratory functions withhighimpact on drug discovery projects.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design andconductelaborate, conceptually connected, multi-component immunological and pharmacological experiments
  • Collateand interpret complex datasystematically andsynthesizes results into a cohesive body of conclusions or recommendations to guide Project decisions and new researchactivities
  • Exercises solid judgment to prioritize studies, considering feasibility and Projectimpact
  • Performs advanced and/or complex experimentaltroubleshooting
  • Scours relevant scientic literature and routinelyincorporatenew insights into researchactivities
  • Identies, prioritizes and introduces relevant emerging technologies in eld ofexpertiseto advance the existing technology platforms and create/maintaina competitiveadvantage
  • Explores the feasibility of applying new scientic principles/concepts or implements andvalidatesnovel experimental approaches and technologies to achieve projectgoals
  • Independently prepares study presentations and presents experimental conclusions at internal Group/Department or Project Team researchmeetings
  • Contributes signicantly to patent and/or publicationpreparation
  • Performs other duties asassigned

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability todesign,executeand interpretcompleximmunological and pharmacologicalin vivoandin vitroexperiments, to measure the action of compounds in disease relevant contexts
  • Expertisein the development and optimization of complexin vivomodels of inflammation or autoimmune diseases
  • Advanced skills in immunological techniques, such as flow cytometry, immunophenotyping, and in vitro/ex vivo cellular assays, to characterize immune responses and compound efficacy.
  • Proficiencyin a wide range ofin vivotechniques, including routes of administration, blood/tissue harvesting, and processing for cellular/molecular analyses of immune responses and target engagement in immune models
  • A broad working knowledge of fundamentalimmunology andpharmacology principles
  • Demonstrates astute understanding of own discipline and the relevant literature
  • Maintainsa high levelof knowledge related to current developments in the scientic Projecteld
  • Displaysprovenproductivity and experimental creativity, and effective dissemination ofideas
  • Demonstrates effective, self-sufcient communication skills, especially in peer-directedpresentations
  • Demonstrates awareness of other Project-related disciplines and an understanding of general concepts and some experimental detail within thoseareas

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. Immunology, pharmacology or related disciplineand 0-3 years ofrelevant post-doctoral employmentexperience or,
  • Master'sdegree and 3+years ofrelevant employmentexperience or,
  • Bachelor'sdegree and 6+years ofrelevant employmentexperience

Pay Range:

$110,900 - $166,300

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
