General Summary Reporting to the Senior Vice President Heart & Vascular/Orthopedic/Neurosciences, provides leadership in the design, implementation, and monitoring of Orthopedic Service Line clinical programs, along with quality and safety standards in collaboration with key members of the executive leadership team. Responsible for identification of models of care, clinical pathways and supporting clinical leadership in establishing clinical standards of care to drive consistency of customer experience across Henry Ford Health System continuum of care (e.g., ambulatory, acute and post-acute). Accountable for setting clinical strategy and for assessing service line market position, including market share, growth trends and clinical performance relative to competitors. Promotes service line growth in conjunction with clinical and executive leadership to win in our market. With executive leadership, this position determines service line financial targets, monitors the service line budget, and holds shared accountability for contribution margin and budget. Engages in relationship development, physician alignment, and physician workforce planning, monitors physician productivity, and drives physician engagement. Responsible for building relationships so that through functioning in a matrix environment enables our care delivery and market share to be number one in the market. Promotes alignment of clinical and educational mission by ensuring that academic physicians who fall within the service line are focused on research and teaching that is aligned with clinical service line strategy. Principle Duties and Responsibilities * Provides overall leadership and operational oversight to the service line with focus on development of branding strategy and building and executing high reliability services that optimize best practices and high standards of practice and services. * Accountable for overall development and execution of the service line by leading clinical practices and professional and technical services areas in accordance with defined quality and financial metrics and system strategic plan. Ensures alignment and collaborative working relationships with system-wide executive leadership and works to integrate the service line across Henry Ford Health System. * Maximizes service line operations, interprets changes in the marketplace, growth trends and clinical performance relative to competitors, promoting service line growth. * Defines service line models of care and provides leadership on clinical pathways, monitors service line trends in clinical research and practice to promote market leading, evidence-based service. Oversees execution of care delivery for the service line across all locations linked to the continuum of care (e.g., ambulatory, acute, post-acute, home care and medical home sites). * Takes accountability for financial performance of the clinical service line including planning capital and operating budgets, research, education, growth initiatives, and expense management. This includes forecast data, cost analysis, development of business plans, etc. * Oversees service lines personnel and labor policies, procedures, and practices. In conjunction with various areas within Human Resources develops job descriptions, hiring practices, performance management, compensation, disciplinary actions, career development, etc. Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the service lines. Monitors local, regional, and national legislation impacting the organization and reporting, with strategies to achieve compliance as needed. * Creates an environment of continual improvement and adaptive innovation that is responsive to the needs of customers. Facilitates a highly matrix approach in the development of services and demonstrates the ability to participate effectively on committees and teams within the health system's organizational structure. * Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Henry Ford Health Compliance Program, Standards of Conduct, ethics, as well as other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior. * Creates and maintains physician and clinical staff relationships built on shared values, trust, and mutuality. Develops sustainable relationships that result in supportive patient care systems, physician access/satisfaction, and quality, efficient care across the service line delivery platform. * Responds to the community's needs for quality health care services by monitoring the adequacy of the service line medical activities and closely coordinating with community leaders and Henry Ford Health clinical leaders in achieving and maintaining the required standards of medical performance. * Appoints, develops, mentors, and supports a service line leadership team that provides comprehensive and well-developed daily operational leadership and collaborates with other providers to improve service line services in the community. Education/Experience Required * Master's degree in Business Administration, Nursing, Health Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Five (5) years of progressively more responsible leadership experience working in a clinical or comparable business capacity. * Ability to identify, create and foster an organizational culture that is supportive of a high reliability organization and builds upon operating in a highly matrixed working environment. * Advanced business and analytical skills to develop new or enhance existing clinical and operational strategies, business plans, policies, and programs. * Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current health care/service line trends and practices including healthcare reform, integration of health care delivery systems, clinical/medical advancements, health care financing, performance improvement and change management tools. * Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and business acumen to foster interactions, forge alliances, counsel, inspire and build confidence in others, promote understanding of Henry Ford Health and business of healthcare. * Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership environment. * Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the mission, vision, goals, and values of Henry Ford Health. * Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Henry Ford Health Compliance Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies by ensuring adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
