We are seeking a System Administrator to support a federal government customer with staff located at the Silver Spring Metro Campus and field offices in Norfolk, VA; Chesapeake, VA; Seattle, WA; and Durham, NH.
Please note: Due to the secure nature of this government agency, all candidates must be U.S. Citizens and able to successfully pass the required background investigation.
The Opportunity
This full-time, on-site role is ideal for an experienced IT professional with strong system administration skills and a customer-focused mindset. You'll support mission systems and end users while collaborating with government stakeholders and internal technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud & Infrastructure
- Support Azure and AWS environments, including migrations from on-premises systems
- Assist with cloud strategy, risk management, and security authorization planning
- Analyze server architecture and recommend infrastructure improvements
- Provide engineering and administration support for cloud-based services
System Administration
- Administer Windows and Linux (RedHat/Amazon) environments
- Monitor system performance to ensure uptime and reliability
- Install, configure, patch, and maintain servers and applications
- Maintain system documentation, inventories, and capacity planning
- Configure new systems and manage hardware/software assets
User & Access Management
- Create, modify, and remove user accounts
- Manage MFA, password policies, RBAC, ICAM, and YubiKey distribution
- Support Google Workspace (email, calendar, client configuration)
Security & Compliance
- Apply security patches and monitor vulnerabilities
- Support System Security Plans (SSPs) in coordination with ISSO
- Assist with cloud security controls and authorization boundaries
- Monitor threats and incidents using tools such as Tenable
Troubleshooting & Operations
- Diagnose hardware, software, and connectivity issues
- Support Windows/Linux interoperability and COTS/custom applications
- Develop basic automation to improve administrative efficiency
- Coordinate hardware repairs and vendor support
Backup, Recovery & Documentation
- Maintain backup and disaster recovery procedures
- Test recovery plans to support business continuity
- Document system changes and develop SOPs/training materials
- Support Help Desk teams with ticket resolution
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience; 4 years may substitute)
Experience:
- 9-11 years in system administration or related technical field
Skills & Knowledge:
- AWS, Azure, and Google Workspace
- Windows and Linux server administration
- MFA, RBAC, ICAM, and YubiKey management
- Backup strategies and disaster recovery planning
- Security patching, vulnerability management, and incident response
- Automation/scripting for administrative efficiency
- Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills
- Ability to collaborate with vendors, internal teams, and federal stakeholders
Preferred
- Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, ITIL, CISSP
- Federal client experience
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, Active Directory, Microsoft 365
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Secure federal office environment
- May lift equipment up to 50 lbs
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Occasional after-hours or weekend support
