Cleveland-Cliffs has an opportunity for a Tax Analyst. The Tax Analyst will assist with the development and documentation of the separate entity and consolidated calculations related to Cleveland-Cliffs Inc.'s ("CCI") tax return filings and interim and annual tax provisions. This position also assists with gathering support and preparing responses related to tax audit inquiries and assists with tax department administrative tasks. In addition, the Tax Analyst will assist with various property and sales & use tax calculations, analyses and other indirect tax filings. While performing these various assignments, the Tax Analyst will interface with other CCI departments (e.g., Accounting, Commercial, Financial Planning, Legal, Treasury, etc.) and, where appropriate, CCI's external advisors. The individual filling this position will report directly to a Senior Tax Analyst or a Tax Manager.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of federal, state, local, personal property, real property, and sales and use tax returns and supporting work papers and files for CCI entities, excluding payroll taxes. This includes assisting with requesting, gathering, and processing financial information, utilizing software applications to effectively generate the tax returns as well as supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source documentation.

  • Assist with the development of separate company and consolidated projections of current and future CCI tax liabilities (provisions / liabilities / assets). Assist with tax calculations and documentation related to interim and annual accounting for taxes, estimated payment filings, and tax planning.

  • Assist with tax audits and inquiries, including gathering supporting documentation for use in responding to matters raised by exam teams.

  • Assist in the analysis of new tax legislation and regulations, reporting requirements, and court cases, identifying potential impacts to CCI and actions to be taken.

  • Assist with maintaining the electronic files and records of the Tax Department.

  • Actively identify and implement tax department process improvements including, but not limited to, utilizing software to its maximum potential.

  • Participation on quality improvement teams.

  • Minimal travel to other CCI sites.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Entry-level position.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.

  • CPA license is not immediately required, but is expected to be obtained in the future.

  • Possesses a basic understanding of accounting/ U.S. GAAP principles as well as a basic understanding of corporate income tax. Must have a desire to learn the intricacies of corporate taxation and apply the acquired knowledge.

  • Is proficient in utilizing Microsoft Excel.

  • Expresses ideas clearly in documents with a focus on organization, structure, grammar, language, and terminology adjusted to the characteristics and needs of the audience. Orally expresses ideas effectively in individual and group situations.

  • Establishes high-performance standards, striving to attain those standards, taking initiative, and demonstrating a commitment to the organization and to the profession. Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with the following software:

  • Oracle/Ellipse/Hyperion/SAP

  • Onesource Income Tax and Onesource Tax Provision

  • Strong technology skills, and knowledge of information systems.

The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $90,000. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and business or organizational needs.
