The impact you'll make

In this role, you will directly contribute to Lam's development of materials science and engineering data sets for application to wafer fabrication equipment hardware. This will be done in service of innovation opportunities and technical challenges that are defined by the needs of Lam Research customers.

The Deposition Product Group Materials Science & Technology organization is responsible for the selection and development of materials and surface treatments, used in semiconductor tool chamber components, which are capable of withstanding harsh operating environments inclusive of thermal, mechanical, and chemical stresses.

What you'll do

Responsibilities will include research of materials, lab work, knowledge documentation, and presentation of data, analyses, and recommendations. Specific job responsibilities include:

  • Work with fellow engineers and suppliers to evaluate new hardware designs and materials in support of the company's complex semiconductor capital equipment
  • Perform materials characterization, such as imaging, chemical analysis, and measurement of mechanical properties, of engineering and precision materials
  • Produce detailed reports, presents results, and data-backed recommendations to management and cross-functional teams
  • Develop and maintain BKMs (Best Known Methods) and procedures for failure analyses and characterization methodologies
Who we're looking for

Mimimum Qualifications

  • Graduate student in Materials Science/Materials Engineering program
  • Experience and strong familiarity working in a laboratory environment
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanics of materials, materials science, and reaction kinetics / thermodynamics
  • Hands-on experience with performing and interpreting results from analytical methods such as microscopy, SEM, profilometry, etc. for engineering materials
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively and efficiently with diverse teams
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
Preferred qualifications
  • Self-motivated, curious, and a sense of humor
  • General knowledge of setting up experiments
  • General knowledge of problem-solving methodologies

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
