Job Family Description

Occupational Health and Safety personnel ensure workplace environments comply with health and safety regulations and standards to prevent accidents, injuries, and health hazards. They conduct risk assessments, regular inspections, and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. They develop, implement, and train employees on health and safety processes, procedures, and protocols. They ensure organizational compliance with health and safety requirements from regulatory agencies. They review and provide input for hazards and controls in job safety analyses. They investigate incidents, analyze causes, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public.

Discipline Description

Environmental, safety & health, security & quality (ESH&Q) multidiscipline managers lead efforts to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, promote workplace safety, and protect employee well-being, the public, and the environment. The role involves developing and implementing policies, conducting risk assessments, and coordinating training programs to maintain a healthy safety culture and sustainable work environment.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Provide direct assistance to the Director of Health, Safety and Medical in establishing, directing, and managing the overall site Integrated Safety Management, Industrial Safety and Industrial Hygiene Programs; ensure the implementation, compliance, and performance to DOE directives and SRS standards with respect to those programs.
Act on behalf of the Director when required.
Responsible for integrating SRS Health and Safety requirements into a balanced program within constrained resources. Develop a planning, programming, and budgeting process that operates under sound financial management principles for each budget cycle.

Track and report on key performance indicators to measure the success of Health and Safety programs. Identify potential risks to the program and develop mitigation strategies.

Provide guidance in the development, direction, implementation and evaluation of the SRS M&O integrating contractor Health and Safety Programs. This includes recommending and implementing site policies through the development and maintenance of SRID's, site procedures, and assessment criteria in these areas.

Developing and implementing strategies to address revised regulations or regulatory issues of serious impact to Health and Safety including interacting with stakeholders to effect resolution that is cost effective and implementable across the Site.

Determine program goals, resource needs, allocate resources, and accounts for their effective use; implement program strategies that align with customer objectives and mission requirements.

Prepare and present comprehensive reports on program status, financial performance, and key metrics to senior officials and stakeholders.

Provide technical and programmatic guidance and direction to personnel and subcontractors in accomplishing work.

Required Qualifications

* Fifteen or more YOE as an individual contributor in one or more of the roles managed plus six or more years of experience (YOE) in a relevant management role, OR Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field plus twelve or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed, OR Master's Degree in a relevant field plus eight or more years of experience (YOE) in one or more of the roles managed
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Extensive knowledge and understanding of 10 CFR 851
Previous experience related to developing and coordinating sitewide implementation of advanced Industrial Hygiene practices
Certified Industrial Hygienist by the American Board of Industrial Hygienists
Certification as Certified Safety Professional by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals
B.S. or advanced degree in engineering/science or other technical area.
Multifunctional management experience.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
