Job Description: The medical student research assistant will help support prospective clinical trials in children having surgery and/or procedures under general anesthesia. The student will be directly involved in the following IRB-approved studies: 1. Pro00115978: The Impact of Adaptive Sensory Environments on the Perioperative Care for Children with ASD. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of adaptive sensory environments and individualized behavioral plans in children undergoing outpatient procedures requiring general anesthesia. 2. Pro00117598: Perioperative Methadone Use for Cleft Palate Repair: A randomized controlled trial. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of methadone in pain management in children undergoing cleft palate surgery. The student will assist with data collection, patient follow-up, and preliminary data analysis.
