Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Clinical Research Supervisor and the Principal Investigator (PI), the incumbent will perform entry-level duties related to the support and coordination of clinical studies and may receive training and development to prepare and advance to journey-level work at the next level within the series. The ideal candidate will have an interest in qualitative research methods with the potential to take on additional roles and responsibilities in other areas of the PI's research program. The candidate will assist in the execution, management, and coordination of research protocols, data collection and operation of concurrent clinical research studies under the guidelines of research protocols, UCSF and regulating agency policies.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $34.32 - $55.19 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) to join our Clinical Research Core team to assist with our growing portfolio of perioperative, critical care, and pain medicine studies. The Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) will work closely with an Associate Professor of Anesthesia at the University of California, San Francisco on studies examining the use of monitored anesthesia care in low-risk outpatient procedures in older adults. The Department of Anesthesia and Perioperative Care highly values mutual respect and collegiality, and the CRC would be an essential and highly respected part of these projects. This position supports one Principal Investigator (PI) across concurrent NIH or department-funded clinical research studies. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and assist with the execution, management, and coordination of research protocols, data collection and study operations under guided by UCSF and regulatory agency policies.

Required Qualifications


  • HS graduation and sufficient experience and demonstrated skills to successfully perform the assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and presentation skills; excellent organizational skills; and excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a diverse team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Windows.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based environment; project management and coordination skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines on concurrent projects.
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with patients, co-workers, & physicians.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Demonstrated proficiency with medical terminology.
  • Experience working with patients or study subjects.
  • Experience with qualitative research methods.
  • Ability to abstract data from medical records and transfer it to data collection forms or directly into databases.
  • Experience with applications/software such as RedCap, Qualtrics, Atlas.TI, OnCore, APEX, CinicalTrials.gov and other relevant research applications.
  • Proficient in another language e.g., Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)
  • Familiarity with clinical policies and procedures related to research, reimbursement, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance, with a clear understanding of the mission of improving patient outcomes and safety.
  • Proven ability to adhere to institutional training requirements, including Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Safety, and Effective Cash Handling Procedures, while ensuring compliance with UCSF's high standards for patient and data safety
