Basic Qualifications

The Chief Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Systems Engineering, or related technical field and at least 10 years of related leadership experience in development and delivery of military systems. Applicants with a Master's degree and a minimum of 8 years of related leadership experience are also eligible.


Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is required at time of hire - active and transferable. Eligibility for access to Special Access Program Information (SAPI) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), including willingness to submit to a Counterintelligence polygraph, is a benefit. Due to the nature of work performed in our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.


Ability to travel is required. Travel is estimated at 35% to 45%.

GDMS has an immediate opening for the
Restricted Maritime Capabilities Chief Engineer. Our team works closely with Restricted customers across the maritime domain, and this role will help lead an exciting growth strategy to expand these customers' access to our core technologies and product offerings. In this role, you will participate in Restricted conferences and threat briefings and work closely with our Business Development organization to understand customer needs and present conceptual solutions aligned with GDMS capabilities.

As the Chief Engineer, you will lead development of technology roadmaps and hold final technical authority over the design, production, installation, and activation of systems that satisfy our customers' functional, behavioral, affordability, interface, and operational requirements. You will also drive consistent implementation of design-to-cost processes and work to optimize these processes to sharpen competitiveness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Systems architect with broad background in various engineering disciplines (e.g., systems, software, electrical, mechanical, cybersecurity)
  • Experience with the design, certification, and operation of undersea systems, including those installed on submarine platforms as well as those that enable broader undersea warfare, anti-submarine warfare, mine warfare, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions
  • Candidates should have a strong understanding of key technologies including positioning, navigation and timing (PNT), command and control, autonomous systems, power systems, advanced software development methodologies, as well as sensing and communications in the acoustic, RF, and optical domains
  • Experience with full engineering lifecycle of complex military systems including concept development, requirements specification, design, integration, test, verification, validation, logistics, training, sustainment, and obsolescence management
  • Proven ability to engage customers, understand requirements, present candidate solutions, and adapt solutions to align with evolving needs
  • Development and implementation of technology roadmaps in support of undersea mission objectives, including planning and oversight of Independent Research and Development (IRAD) activities aligned with these objectives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including demonstrated ability to clearly present technical concepts to customer and company leadership, both technical and programmatic
  • Experience assessing and managing technical risks and leading the investigation and resolution of technical issues on critical, high visibility programs
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and delivering incremental solutions to external customers
  • Experience with robust trade study process, technical solution concept development, and quick turn proposal preparation
  • Experience with various Restricted maritime customers and co-contractors


Target salary range: USD $210,262.00/Yr. - USD $233,259.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
