Salary Grade: T26

Reporting to the Captain of the Engagement Unit and Security Operations for the Temple University Department of Public Safety (TUDPS), the Lieutenant of Security Operations leads the department's security staff, made up of TUDPS security officers (SO), as well as contracted security personnel, and leads the planning, staffing, and execution of security for events large and small. The Lieutenant is a sworn, uniformed position who formulates the unit's strategies and objectives based on the department's overall goals and incorporates data on university and community trends and campus security issues.

Required Education and Experience
* A minimum of two (2) years of certified police experience as a police sergeant or current Lieutenant.
* Current MPOETC certification or certification under the Municipal Police Officer's Training Act (Act 120).
* Large scale security event planning including developing written contingency and operational plans.

Preferred Education and Experience
* A master's degree in criminal justice, Police Science, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
* Completion of the FBI National Academy or Northwestern's School of Police Staff and Command is preferred.
* Experience with policy development and accreditation experience.

Required Skills & Abilities
* Ability to handle sensitive matters in a confidential and professional manner.
* Must have skills and competencies in public safety and emergency management, including public safety, outreach/engagement, health preparedness, emergency planning, crisis communication, physical plant preparedness, and preparedness training/education.
* Knowledge of principles and practices of composing and editing informational and educational material.
* Skilled in critical thinking and problem-solving, as well as being innovative and creative.
* Ability to demonstrate knowledge and familiarity with law enforcement and security principles, in addition to the laws and regulations governing them.
* Requires visual acuity that is sufficient to pass the practical yearly firearm qualification course.
* Excellent communication and customer service skills.
* Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication or make discriminations in sound.
* Demonstrated knowledge of applicable computer software and applicable professional principles.
* Walking, standing, or moving about for long distances.
* Ability to work extended hours.
* Ability to work nights/weekends/early mornings.
