Responsible for the direct and indirect total nursing care by assessment of the patient's needs; utilizes a plan of care to meet their individual needs while undergoing surgical intervention. Directs and supervises activities of nursing personnel in the surgical suite. Coordinates the flow of the daily OR schedule. Plans and organizes orientation and in service training for operating room staff members. Takes independent action when indicated to insure smooth flow of the operating room services. Assists with other administrative duties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of a School of Nursing 2. Current Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which services will be provided or current multi-state Registered Nurse license through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). EXPERIENCE: 1. Two (2) years' experience as a Registered Nurse in an operating department PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. AORN certification CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Performs as an Operating Room Nurse circulating and scrubbing on surgical procedures 2. Reviews initial assessment when patient is admitted to the operating room, verifying correct procedure, completed permit, history and physical, and laboratory data in accordance with hospital policy. 3. Uses professional judgment to determine the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient. 4. Documents intraoperative care given in the operating room. 5. Makes daily staff assignments, coordinates the flow of the OR schedule, with Operating Room Associates, Outpatient Associates, PACU associates, Anesthesiologists, Nurse Anesthesia, Surgeons, other nursing professionals, Patient and Patient's Family 6. Demonstrates competency in technical and clinical skills, completes skills check list and correctly performs these skills 7. Performs computer functions within the Department, i.e. ordering lab, x-rays, cs case carts. Utilizes PHS/MSM System for Real Time Scheduler, as well as scheduling and printing PHS schedules. Schedules cases for surgery through the use of the PHS system. 8. Meets with Department Managers and Medical staff to establish standards, requirements and specification for care of surgical patients 9. Provides clinical and professional input into Departmental projects 10. Participates in OR administrative call. Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis 3. Hearing within normal range is required. (ie, to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.). Visual activity must be within normal range. 4. Must be able to perform heavy work: exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills 2. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing 3. Must be able to read and write legibly in English 4. Must have math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages and infusion rates 5. Must have the ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific principles, and also be able to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion. 6. Must have effective reading and comprehension skills.
