Position Summary

Provides support to the Director, Associate Director, and/or Assistant Director in all aspects of the COM Financial Aid office.

Duties & Responsibilities

    • Helps to manage all federal, state, miscellaneous agency, and university programs awarded within the office.
    • Meet with and counsel COM students at all sites in obtaining various sources of financial assistance funds. Provide information about available programs, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
    • Create, update, and adjust awards based on an analysis of eligibility and various edit reports and an evaluation of the level and type of assistance that can be awarded to the student.
    • Verify financial aid applications and related documentation for completeness, compliance, and eligibility. Audit and verify content of applications, tax forms and supporting documents and follow up on missing information. received via fax, mail, email, or walk-in traffic.
    • Present financial aid workshops and presentations.
    • Research and respond to inquiries, problems, and issues as they may arise from various sources.
    • Routine Travel to the Peoria and Rockford sites.
    • Helps maintain consistent and constant communication with the students and administrators at the Chicago, Peoria, and Rockford sites.
    • Works with students experiencing long-term financial problems and third-party agencies to resolve these problems and present options available to such students.
    • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree in business, communications, humanities, social sciences, or a closely related field to the position.
    2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in student services, financial aid/loans or a closely related field within higher education or a related agency.
    3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.
    NOTE: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
