Position Responsibilities

Deltek is establishing its first internal data science capability, and we're seeking an Associate Data Science Specialist to help us build it thoughtfully from the ground up. You'll play a critical role during an exciting transformation as we modernize our data infrastructure and bring advanced analytics to our B2B SaaS business.

While you'll eventually work on model development and optimization, your initial focus will be strategic: discovering where predictive analytics exists across our organization, understanding what our business units actually need, and creating the roadmap for our data science function. This position requires someone who combines understanding of machine learning concepts with strong communication skills and the ability to translate between business problems and technical solutions.

Discovery, Assessment & Coordination

  • Conduct stakeholder interviews across business units (Sales, Customer Success, Product, Marketing) to identify existing predictive analytics efforts, pain points, and opportunities
  • Document data requirements for analytics use cases: what history is needed, training cadence, scoring frequency, user groups, success metrics
  • Map existing analytical workflows and identify where machine learning could augment or replace current approaches
  • Assess data readiness for common SaaS use cases: customer health scoring, churn prediction, upsell/cross-sell propensity, lead scoring
  • Translate business problems into data science requirements and technical constraints into business language

Foundational Data Science Work

  • Perform exploratory data analysis to assess data quality and readiness for modeling
  • Conduct statistical analyses to validate business hypotheses and quantify relationships in customer data
  • Analyze customer behavior patterns across the SaaS lifecycle (onboarding, adoption, expansion, renewal)
  • Contribute to our Snowflake data platform design with data science use cases in mind
  • Document findings, insights, and recommendations in clear, accessible formats for diverse audiences

Communication & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Create presentations and visualizations that make analytical findings accessible to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Explain data science concepts, potential use cases, and limitations to business leaders
  • Facilitate discussions between business stakeholders and technical teams to align on priorities and approach
  • Build organizational understanding of what data science can and cannot do in a B2B SaaS context
  • Present discovery findings and recommendations to leadership

Qualifications

Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or related quantitative field
  • Solid understanding of machine learning concepts: supervised/unsupervised learning, model evaluation, feature engineering, training vs. scoring
  • Understanding of statistical analysis fundamentals: hypothesis testing, correlation, regression, confidence intervals
  • SQL experience with the ability to write queries for data exploration and analysis

Professional Skills

  • Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and business problems to technical teams
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across teams and business units, building relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity in a greenfield environment
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to break down complex problems and evaluate solution approaches
  • Strong listening skills to understand stakeholder needs and translate them into requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to enterprise data warehouses or cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
  • Experience with B2B SaaS analytics, customer health scoring, churn prediction, or subscription business metrics
  • Understanding of SaaS business metrics (ARR, MRR, churn, NRR, customer lifetime value)
  • Familiarity with the SaaS customer lifecycle (acquisition, onboarding, adoption, expansion, renewal)
  • Understanding of dimensional modeling or data warehouse design
  • Previous consulting, business analysis, or stakeholder management experience
  • Experience working with business intelligence tools like Power BI or Tableau
  • Background in product analytics or customer analytics
US Citizenship is required for this position.
