The Facilities and Operations Supervisor oversees the daily maintenance activities of the Shielded Cells department, specifically leading the Manipulator Repair Program. This role ensures the operational readiness of specialized equipment used to handle highly radioactive materials. You will provide hands-on leadership, set team priorities, and ensure all work adheres to Department of Energy (DOE) safety standards and conduct of operations.


  • Program Leadership: Lead the comprehensive manipulator repair program, overseeing the maintenance, rebuilding, and testing of master-slave manipulator arms used in radioactive environments.
  • Daily Supervision: Manage the daily workflow of the Shielded Cells support team, ensuring tasks are prioritized to meet laboratory research and mission-critical schedules.
  • Work Control: Serve as the Person-in-Charge (PIC), performing walkdowns, task previews, and pre-job briefings to ensure safety and deconfliction of work activities.
  • Compliance & Safety: Enforce strict adherence to SRNL internal procedures, DOE Orders, and Integrated Safety Management Systems (ISMS).
  • Equipment Innovation: Collaborate on the design, modification, or mockup of laboratory equipment to improve remote operations within the hot cell environment.
  • Operational Reporting: Monitor and report on maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide performance updates to senior management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience leading teams in an industrial or laboratory setting, with a strong background in equipment maintenance or mechanical repair.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Engineering or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Nuclear experience.
  • Familiarity with Conduct of Maintenance and the ability to interpret technical drawings and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
