The WEX Summer Internship Program: Learn, Lead, and Make an Impact

Our 13-week paid internship program, running from late May to mid-August, is a chance for you to gain real-world experience and develop your skills. Recruiting begins in January and continues through March at our various locations across the U.S.

About the team/role:

As a Fraud Data Analytics Intern, you will join the Fraud Analytics team for the summer, where you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced data analysts learning how to blend complex data, do detailed data analysis, and create actionable dashboards. We are looking for an undergraduate level student who is passionate about data, excited to learn more about the FinTech industry, and interested in learning more about fraud analytics.

How You'll Make an Impact

Data Support & Insight Generation:

  • Identify Trends: Help connect business problems with data by performing guided analysis on fraud detection.

  • Support Analysis: Assist in root cause analysis for specific fraud events to help the team improve coverage and efficiency.

  • Blend Complex Data: Learn how to interact with different types of data structures and blend them together accurately and efficiently

Reporting & Dashboarding:

  • Maintain Visibility: Help update and maintain dashboards that track key metrics like fraud loss performance.

  • Monitor Trends: Observe system KPIs and flag performance shifts to senior team members.

  • Documentation: Assist in documenting data definitions and reporting logic to ensure team-wide consistency.

Experience You'll Bring

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Economics, Computer Science, Statistics, or Data Analytics).

Skills & Attributes:

  • Foundational Tech Skills: Basic to intermediate knowledge of SQL and Python.

  • Data Visualization: Familiarity with tools like Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Excel.

  • Analytical Mindset: A natural curiosity for "solving the puzzle" and a strong attention to detail.

  • Collaboration: A desire to work in a fast-paced team environment and the ability to take direction and feedback constructively.

  • Interest in Fraud: An interest in fraud typologies (Account Takeover, synthetic identity, etc.) and risk management is a plus.

The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
