Linux Systems Administrator (RHEL)--local candidates only, Face to Face Required Local Government Technology Environment Location-White Plains, NY - Onsite (no remote) Duration: 12+ Month Contract 35 hours per week Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Linux Systems Engineer with a strong background in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) to support and maintain enterprise Linux infrastructure within a large Local Government environment. This role focuses on system reliability, security, and performance, supporting both internal and external users across mission-critical platforms. The ideal candidate is hands-on, security-conscious, and comfortable working in a regulated environment with strict operational standards. Key Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and support RHEL-based Linux servers in production environments Manage and support external user directory services, authentication, and access controls Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot firewalls and SELinux policies Implement and maintain file-sharing services using Samba and NFS Support web and database services including Apache, MySQL, and/or PostgreSQL Apply network management concepts to diagnose and resolve connectivity and performance issues Develop and maintain Bash and PHP scripts for automation, monitoring, and system tasks Perform system patching, upgrades, backups, and disaster recovery support Troubleshoot system-level issues and provide root cause analysis Work closely with cross-functional IT teams to ensure system stability and security Required Qualifications Strong experience as a Linux Systems Engineer or Administrator Hands-on expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Experience managing SELinux, firewalls, and system security controls Proficiency with Samba and NFS for file-sharing services Working knowledge of Apache web server and relational databases (MySQL and/or PostgreSQL) Solid understanding of Linux networking concepts Scripting experience using Bash; PHP experience preferred Experience working in enterprise or government environments is a strong plus Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting systems in public sector or regulated environments Familiarity with compliance, auditing, and security best practices Strong documentation and communication skills Why This Role Opportunity to work with a leader in the Local Government sector Long-term contract stability Meaningful work supporting critical public services Collaborative, professional IT environment #techjobs The base pay range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to offer for this role.
