This role carries expanded ownership of end-to-end strategy operationalization-translating data vision into governed, repeatable, and measurable practices that are embedded into daily business operations.

The Principal Data Strategist serves as the authoritative voice on foundational domain strategy leading the definition of complex business requirements and data quality rules to ensure data is consistently standardized, governed, and AI-ready. This role leads the design and institutionalization of governance operating models, drives cross-functional alignment at the executive level, and owns the accountability framework for strategic programs such as CRM harmonization and Lead-to-Cash. The ideal candidate is a business thinker who combines deep technical fluency with executive presence-capable of both setting the strategic direction and ensuring it takes hold across the organization.

Operationalization Ownership

  • Own the end-to-end operationalization of data strategies-ensuring that governance decisions, domain standards, and data quality policies are not only defined but actively embedded into business processes, tooling, and team workflows.

  • Establish and maintain an operationalization framework that bridges strategy design and sustained execution, including accountability structures, change management plans, and adoption tracking.

  • Define and enforce data stewardship operating models, including RACI matrices, escalation paths, and steward enablement programs, ensuring each domain has an active, empowered steward community.

  • Lead the transition of strategic initiatives from project delivery into business-as-usual operations, partnering with process owners to institutionalize data definitions as durable organizational capabilities.

  • Create and govern feedback loops between business outcomes, data quality signals, and strategy refinement-ensuring operationalized practices are continuously improved based on evidence.

  • Drive executive-level decisions on cross-functional data ownership disputes, governance gaps, and policy enforcement, serving as the highest internal escalation point for data strategy matters.

Data Analysis & Domain Strategy Development

  • Own and drive the full strategy lifecycle for foundational domains (Account and Product), including vision-setting, multi-year roadmap development, and executive stakeholder alignment.

  • Translate complex business needs into prioritized, actionable data initiatives; oversee the collection, organization, and analysis of enterprise data assets to drive informed decision-making and operational efficiency.

  • Lead the development of canonical models, semantic layers, and MDM frameworks that support AI-readiness and governed data consumption at scale.

  • Support enterprise-wide data definition strategy by assessing legacy systems, supporting operationalization of critical data elements, and directing technical teams in designing phased or full-scale migration approaches

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Executive Influence

  • Serve as the principal strategic liaison between data, technology, and business leadership-driving alignment and decision-making across Sales/GTM, Marketing, Customer Success, Finance, Product, IT, and platform teams.

  • Influence without authority across senior stakeholders-building coalitions, resolving competing priorities, and securing organizational commitment to governed data practices.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Proficiency: Expert-level skills in SQL, Python, Excel; hands-on experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI), canonical models, semantic layers, and MDM/reference data.

  • Business Acumen: Proven ability to translate complex data strategy into business value; deep understanding of how Sales, Marketing, Finance, Customer Success, and Product leverage data.

  • Operationalization Leadership: Demonstrated experience moving data strategies from design to durable business-as-usual execution.

  • Program & Initiative Ownership: Track record leading and owning multi-workstream data programs-road mapping, prioritization, cross-functional delivery, and executive reporting.

  • Communication & Executive Presence: Exceptional written and verbal communication; able to influence senior leaders, resolve strategic ambiguity, and represent data strategy at the executive level.

  • Experience: 10+ years in domain expertise, data strategy, data quality, or related disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading Account/Product domain transformations at scale (e.g., segmentation, pricing, catalog, entitlement/usage).

  • Knowledge of AI/ML data readiness, including feature sourcing, responsible-AI governance, and data quality requirements for ML pipelines.

  • Hands-on experience with master data tools, data catalogs/lineage, workflow automation, and enterprise data quality platforms.

  • Experience designing and institutionalizing data definitions and stewardship programs across large, distributed organizations.

  • Exposure to external data sources (intent, firmographics, market data) and enrichment strategies.
