GAI Consultants is actively seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Engineer for our Florida Water Division in our Orlando, Florida office. An ideal candidate has planning, design, permitting, and construction experience as well as client relationships in the Florida municipal water/wastewater and utilities markets. We are looking for a motivated person to join our team to build our business with technical, project management, and business development abilities. This position is an excellent opportunity to grow into a leadership position as the Florida Water Division expands its portfolio and range of services.

Job Duties:



  • Independently perform and contribute to multi-discipline teams on the delivery of planning, evaluation, design, permitting, and construction projects related to water and wastewater collection, conveyance, and water distribution systems, pump stations, storage and treatment plants, facility upgrades, renewal & replacement projects, amongst other infrastructure projects.


  • Provide technical execution and oversight of design projects including schematic/preliminary design, design development, final design, specifications, permitting, bid-phase services, and construction contract document production.
  • Lead water/ wastewater consulting tasks, including flow projections, hydraulic modeling, master planning, detailed design calculations, alternative analysis and selection, cost estimating, equipment selection, project prioritization, and CIP development.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff for technical and project management knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Contribute to the planning and management of projects from inception through construction and start-up, including client coordination, team chartering, scope, schedule and budget development and management, safety, quality assurance/ quality control, and maintain a high level of client satisfaction.


  • Contribute to business development activities, including opportunity identification, proposal development, interviews/presentations, and client relationship cultivation.


  • Intermittent travel is estimated to be approximately 10 to 30%, and may involve visits to other offices, onsite meetings with clients, project site visits, and various in-person business development activities.

Minimum Years of Experience



  • 5+


Education



  • B.S., Civil or Environmental Engineering, master's degree preferred.


Certification/Licensure



  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in Florida


Technical Responsibilities



  • Leads a project in the practice in their area of specialization.
  • Develops appropriate design alternatives for complex engineering projects that consider realistic requirements, constraints, community input, permitting, and other regulatory constraints.
  • Occasionally develops standards and guidelines.


  • Applies knowledge and expertise in AutoCAD/ Civil 3D, ArcGIS, and industry hydraulic and design modeling software to efficiently deliver client projects.


  • Integrates advanced concepts, including sustainability, to solve complex problems.


Project and Task Management



  • Implements effective teamwork and leadership.
  • Determines project objectives and requirements.
  • Occasionally oversees small to mid-size project teams.
  • Integrates these components into a complete project management plan for a small to mid-size engineering projects.


Management Responsibility



  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.
  • Implements staff development plans within their practice segment, including technical, management, and leadership skills.


Communication Skills



  • Possesses strong technical writing, verbal communication, and leadership skills working in a dynamic team environment.
  • Integrates different forms of effective and persuasive communication to technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Represents the organization at important functions and conferences.
