Production Supervisor

Job Purpose

The Production Supervisor is responsible for directing all manufacturing activities associated with the PCBA production lines. This role ensures operational excellence by maintaining rigorous adherence to quality standards, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). The incumbent must serve as a hands-on leader, fostering a disciplined work environment while optimizing throughput and technical proficiency across multiple shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Personnel Management

  • Performance Management: Direct and evaluate the performance of production operators, providing consistent feedback and executing corrective actions when necessary to maintain institutional discipline.
  • Talent Development: Orchestrate comprehensive training programs to ensure all personnel remain current on updated SOPs and safety requirements.
  • Succession Planning: Implement cross-training initiatives to mitigate operational risks associated with single-person dependencies, ensuring that no individual absence can result in a total line stoppage.
  • Staffing Oversight: Facilitate the recruitment and on boarding of temporary and permanent personnel, conducting interviews and making decisive retention or termination decisions based on employee aptitude and performance.

Operational Excellence and Compliance

  • Procedural Integrity: Ensure consistent compliance to applicable procedures.
  • Throughput Monitoring: Maintain continuous surveillance of hourly production metrics. Execute mandatory escalation protocols if throughput falls below 70% of established goals for two consecutive hours.
  • 5S and Facility Maintenance: Establish and manage an equipment ownership program. Ensure the production environment remains in a state of high-level sanitation and organization, consistent with 5S lean manufacturing principles.
  • Administrative Oversight: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of work orders, including the timely processing of scrap tickets and mispick data to ensure financial accuracy within the Profit and Loss (P&L) statements.

Technical Oversight and Troubleshooting

  • Machine Operation: Maintain personal proficiency in the setup and operation of all primary equipment on the PCBA lines, including but not limited to SMT, AOI systems, and automated depanelers.
  • Technical Debugging: Assess the status of machine-to-MES data transfer. Identify and rectify data-related failures and programming issues.
  • Inter-departmental Collaboration: Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Program Management to troubleshoot production anomalies and implement process improvements.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline is preferred; High School Diploma or GED required
  • Experience: A minimum of 2-4 years of supervisory experience in a high-volume contract manufacturing environment. Specific experience with SMT processes and medical device assembly is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with production monitoring tools. Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, descriptive pass-down reports and executive-level escalations.

Working Conditions

  • Schedule Flexibility: The role is responsible for two 3-day (Mon-Wed and Thu-Sat) 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM shifts. The work schedule must be adapted, perhaps on a rotating basis, to ensure adequate presence where supervision is most needed.
  • Rotational Coverage: Mandatory participation in a rotational weekend shift schedule (one Saturday or Sunday per month) is required to support continuous production requirements.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods and navigate a manufacturing floor environment that may include exposure to noise.
